Berger Paints — Poor Execution of waterproofing and painting work

Address:Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

*Berger Paints Feedback*:

Dear Sir/Madam,

1. I am Commander Venkatesh serving in the Indian Armed Forces.

2. Recently, I had approached Berger Paints for undertaking Waterproofing and Painting of my house located at Tirupati.

3. The work by Berger Paints began on 23rd Jun 21 and has been completed on 03 Aug 21.

4. Though the quality of material used by Berger Paints were excellent, much is left desired when it comes to execution, workmanship and supervision. Salient aspects are enumerated in succeeding paragraphs.

5. *Delay in completion of work*. Though the payments were made on time by me, the material was not supplied to workers on time. We had to frequently call the person in-charge to provide requisite material. This led to inordinate delays wherein the initially projected work of 15 days was stretched to around 45 days.

6. *Lack of Planning*. There was no plan of execution. Instead of completing the rooms phase-wise in a planned manner, all the work including waterproofing was done on piecemeal basis and simultaneously in all rooms. My aged parents who are staying in the house had to suffer extreme discomfort due to this approach and lack in planning. This is primarily linked to the previous reason wherein the material was not supplied on time and was not provided in accordance with a plan of action. Therefore, the workers did whatever work they could do with the available material on a given day thereby ending up doing piecemeal work in all rooms/ roof.

7. *Lack of Supervision*. There was utter lack of supervision. The labourers were unskilled workers though they were hardworking individuals. No supervisor came on daily basis to supervise the work. It was my aged parents who were running from pillar to post to ensure that the labourers do their job. *It is highly unacceptable from a company like Berger Paints*. Many places were poorly done up and many were left without completion. We had to point out the underside of doors and windows for their painting to be undertaken. How much can my aged parents supervise and point out ? It is the supervisors job and the money is majorly paid for executing this aspect. However, it is sad to note that supervision from the Berger Paints was almost non-existent throughout the work.

8. *Improper use/ lack of requisite tools*. Many required tools like ladder, table, bucket etc was not brought and given to the workers. Instead my own buckets, chairs and tables were utilised by the workers and in turn they were damaged too by improper use.

9. *Lack of Cleaning on daily basis*. The workers seldom cleaned the area of their work and it was left to my aged parents to undertake the same. As mentioned earlier, since there was no plan of action by the supervisor, work at many places were started simultaneously on piecemeal basis. This led to either my family living in unhygienic conditions or they had to go through extreme difficulties since they themselves had to clean up the place after the workers left so that the house remained habitable.

10. *Splash of Paints all over the house*. The painting was not done with finesse and delicate skill. This led to splashing of paint on floor, household items, window panes and on every possible object of the house. The household items were not covered properly as promised earlier before finalising the contract. Also, lack o[censored]sing the right brush/ equipment led to spraying of paint on glass window panes, toilets and showcase items. In the end, they couldn’t remove much of the paint and we had to face lot of difficulties in getting the cleaning done.

11. *Conclusion*. In the end, I would say that the quality of material used was exemplary but the execution was utterly disappointing. The money paid is to ensure quality work and not quality material alone. If you ask me, whether I would recommend Berger paints to my own friends, the answer will probably be a Big NO solely due to poor execution. Proper planning and execution would have also resulted in timely completion and would not have stretched the 15-20 days work to nearly 45 days. I hope you would take corrective action on the above mentioned aspects so that in future you can execute your projects in a professional manner.

Regards,
Commander Venkatesh
