Canara Bank — Removing first holder name because of death

Me and my grandmother hold a joint account in Canara Bank. Recently my grandmother is expired due to which I need to remove her name from the account. I enquired this with the manager and as per him software does not allow this kind of transaction. I want to retain the same account number, but manager is asking to close it and open a new account.
