[Resolved] Sheikh Jamil Ahmad — cancellation of ticket & baggage loss | |||
Sir, It was an unfortunate moment when I decided to go for an AI flight AI 111 from Kolkata to Delhi on 28th Nov 2010. I booked my ticket from Air India site after logging in to my account and printed the ticket after opening the page of “successful bookings”. The tickets for myself along with my wife and one year old son is attached for your reference. As soon as we reached the check-in counter at Kolkata international airport, the person sitting in the counter after observing the ticket for ten minutes told me that your ticket stands cancelled. It was a shocking information for me who was travelling along with a one year old kid with a meeting lined up in Delhi office and an onward journey planned to Chandigarh – where my wife is a posted in PGI as a doctor. Even after enquiring for n number of times he could not give me a convincing reply about the cancellation. To my utter dismay the gentleman charged me that why you don’t book your tickets through an agent. By then I was quite convinced that it was no use talking to this half informed gentleman whose behavior was far from helping. I asked him to take me to some senior. He took me to two gentlemen in the office just behind the counter; even they were not having any answer to my query. The only help they offered me was to book a new ticket at that moment. To avoid cancelling my meeting at delhi and also not to extend my wife’s leave, I agreed, but I was in for another shock when they charged me almost double the previous value for my new ticket. (Rs 7792/- for the confirmed ticket in my hand and Rs 14928/- for the new ticket). AND rs 7792 is still not refunded in my credit card account!! and i have paid 14000/- extra.Details of new tickets are also attached. To add to the harassment the flight was delayed by 90 mins. But as though all this harassment was not enough, we reached Delhi international air port arrivals, belt no. 14 to find that our baggage (2 nos. were missing). Following are the few unforgettable experience that followed: • No AI personel in the office (lost baggage)for 2 hrs, few more people from Toronto flight were waiting, who have already missed their connecting flights. • I could not leave my kid and wife alone for onward journey, they had to wait there, just before the exit, with no proper food available for my kid. • I had to cancel an important meeting at Delhi office. • AI personnel some mr. Sanjay came after a long time. He tried to help me out by searching for our baggage but failed. He registered a complain with file no. DEL AI 32959 between 3.30pm & 4.00 pm.(2th Nov2010). • We had an onward journey planned to Chandigarh by Kalka Shatabdi, the print out of which was in my check in baggage. I asked for a printer to take a new print but they were helpless, absolute helpless. • We rushed to New Delhi Station at 4.10pm without a print out of our valid ticket (copy attached). I took a print of my ticket on my way to New Delhi station, with a constant tension of missing the train, with my one year old kid – hungry & cranky & harassed. • We boarded the train just 5 mins before its departure. With all our warm clothes in check in baggage and Delhi temperature at around 28, it was an absolute torture for which only and only AI is responsible. • Chandigarh was even colder at night. We purchased all new jackets, sweaters, inners, etc. at Chandigarh. (bills can be furnished if required) • AND AS IF THE SERIES OF HARASSMENT NEVER ENDS NOBODY ANSWERS THE CALL AT DELHI AIR PORT AI OFFICE FOR LOST BAGGAGE. I AM TRYING FOLLOWING NUMBERS EVERY 10-20 MINS FOR LAST 4 DAYS; [protected]-3116 [protected], [protected], 24622220, ETC. SOMETIMES AN OPERATOR PICKS UP AND CONNECTS TO A NEW NO. WHERE SHE SAYS NO ONE ANSWERS THE CALL. AND WE ARE YET TO RECEIVE OUR BAGGAGES WHICH CONTAIN ALL CLOTHES, IMPORTANT OFFICE DOCUMENTS, INDISPENSABLE MEDICINES AND OTHER ITEMS LIKE MOBILE CHARGERS, ETC. Given the aforesaid situation, I just demand an adequate compensation for the trauma me and my family underwent( for the extra Rs 7000/- which I paid for the new ticket and or all the money we spent for extra clothes purchased in Chandigarh) and are still going through for our baggage. And if at all Air India is, WHEN is it planning to sent us our baggage??? Most of my friends and colleagues who are senior executives throughout the cross section of corporate India are of the feeling that one should never go for AI. Is it a matter of pride for AI – our national airlines?? I request you to address the matter at the earliest.
