[Resolved]  Election Commission Of Karnataka — Non inclusion of name in the electoral list

Sir,
I Mrs. Lakshmi N Simhan would like to submit that I have been issued with an
EPIC bearing no MBQ 6126700. Mine and my husband's ( S.R.Lakshminarasimhan) name were in the voters list in the AC 156 Mahalaxmi layout Bangalore vide sl.no 159 and 160 of Part 134. We live in an apartment and since the names of most of the residents of our apartment was in part 133 as per the residential address and as the initials of my husband were wrongly noted as G S instead of S R Lakshminarasimhan we approached the facilitation center of BBMP at Shankar Mutt park near Modi hospital requesting for rectification. we were asked submit details in form 6 along with documentary evidence for address proof and the same was done on 14 03 2009. The forms were duly acknowledged. Thereafter our repeated visits to the center to ascertain the updation was not fruitful as we were being told that updation is done centrally and this facilitation center could only inform us of the status and that it is still in the process. Till they closed the facilitation center during the 1 week of April the updation was not done and we were asked to contact the concerned BBMP office. On enquiry at the BBMP office we were told that the updated list will be available at the voting center and we may check there. Accordingly when we went for voting this morning to my dismay i found that while my name was deleted from Part 134 my husband's name appeared on both Part 133 & 134 which shows that the concerned involved in the updation / revision work have done a dismal job. My requests to the polling officers went unheard as they struck to the rules that though i have valid EPIC since my name is deleted from the list i cannot vote. For the utter careless work of the BBMP i am made to surrender my right. Is there a legal remedy for this. Whom should i sue for this prevention constitutional right to vote?
Further BBMP staff on duty at facilitation center were rude and the voters going there for registration treated like pigs. In India only those who have official contacts or political connections can only get things done smoothly. What is the use of spending crores of public money on streamlining the system? The outsourced agencies behave like monarchs. The so called voter friendly 24X7 helpline not accessible and even when we establish contact we are given to understand that they are not equipped to handle the complaints of the nature i have narrated. WAIT TILL CORPORATION ELECTIONS IS THE ONLY ANSWER.

LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY

Mrs. Lakshmi N Simhan
