[Resolved]  Home Town — delay in delivery & damaged product

Address:Mumbai City, Maharashtra

Today consumer is the victim of big time retail chains & their response mechanism thru call centers.

My case description is simple Home Town promised the delivery on certain date & delayed it and when the material landed at my place it was damaged. There starts the spin of calls to call centers, talking to face lace ever changing names, keeping record of complaint nos. In case my grievance with Home Town the complaint no was crf1259.

The call center system insures comforts for vendors & pains for consumers. This system has following aspects:

1. It’s a faceless interface.
2. You are never talking to the same person again.
3. Informing the issues & following it up is done only by consumer.
4. Even when the matter is getting delayed the vendor carries no responsibility of communicating same to consumer.
5. There is no written proof of communication with the consumer.
6. Every time consumer calls he has to brief whole problem from the beginning, because you are never talking to same person.
7. Vendor also records the calls, which he can use for his advantage as & when required.
8. Vendor is sitting comfortable with part or all the money already with him.
9. The most troublesome part of system to consumer is repetitive interactions with different persons, who all are very cold in response, totally alien to grievance, no sense o[censored]rgency as they are facing the problem for first time all this results in raising consumers blood pressure, sometimes with serious long term consequences.
10. At vendors end they have system in place, which geared to receive money immediately on the spot but contrary they have no systems for immediate refunds. All know, how excruciating experience it is to take money back from these large establishments.

We as consumers, at some forum must unite & invent some method by which we come in position to invoke equal amount o[censored]rgency, need & responsibility from the side of vendor.

Whatever system is evolved we must get it enforced thru law.

Here is what i thought should be the scenario.

Stage 1. Consumer conveys grievance to the vendor (call center) only once, after that it is the onus of vendor to follow up the matter & update the consumer of every development.
Stage 2. Consumer should never make 2nd call for same grievance to vendor. Instead he should send a fax or a letter by courier, with a proof copy with himself.
Stage 3. If the matter persists the vendor becomes liable for damages due to delay, inconvenience caused & mental torture + the refund of the payment made towards article or service.

If this becomes a norm then the vendor would be equally keen to not to let the matter escalate to 2nd or 3rd stage.

Note: During 1st stage consumer must get & store the complaint number provided by vendor. In addition consumer, he can, should record any follow up calls for update from vendor side. This will serve him as record in due course.

Jago Grahak Jago... lets fight together this mental torture thru call centers.

Home Town — Delay in delivery without any response

I ordered a sofa and dining table from Home Town, Bangalore Central on 22nd August, 2010 and I paid 25% of money as advance. I was promised that they will be delivered within a month at any case. I have been trying to reach them at the given number[protected] multiple times but nobody picks up the phone. In case somebody picks it up they take the receipt# ([protected]) and promise to get back. And they never got back till date. This is impacting my plan to move to my new house and thereby adding to my cost.
I have seen many similar complaints (i.e. delay and service related) against HomeTown in this forum and so wondering if there is any benefit in doing such posts. However, still posting it here in case it helps in expediting the delivery in my case and help improve services from Home Town for future customers.
Dear Mr. Prathiknath,

Home Town Customer Service.
The WORST QUALITY furniture ever made. Within a year of purchase the furniture has started to break. We purchased 10 items worth Rs.2, 00, 000 (two lakhs) and wondering how long would they last.
The Hometown furniture look good and are heavily priced but made with low quality wood.
My son accidently dropped the dining chair and it broke.
I just placed my hand on a small side stool and that broke too.
Please do not buy anything from Hometown.
YES WORST QUALITY AND SHEER NEGLIGENCE.

I had ordered 3 items, sofa set, dining table and queen bed worth nearing one lakh. First of all they came at a delyaed late of 2 days (only queen bed and dining table) with all damaged parts and the when we questioned about our sofa set, they said it would come 10 days late. We have been contacting them and the answer is "sorry, we will rectify it"...but how long to wait for our items I don't know. Horrible service. Please for god's sake don't buy from Hometown furniture, they just promise and take the full amount and later they delay the delivery and lot of damaged items. Please STOP BUYING FROM HOMETOWN.
I can rate their service, its not even worth one star and hence I am not rating. I went to Home Town outlet at Marathalli, Bangalore around 15 days back to purchase a bed. After having a look at all the beds displayed there, I zeroed down on one Ambra King Size bed with storage. Placed the order and made a payment of Rs.. 24, 900/-. It was promised that bed would be delivered within 7 days and after delivering the bed, within 48 hours it would be assembled.
The bed was delivered on 6th day and on 7th day a person (Name-Babu) visited my place to assemble the parts. While assembling the bed, it got damaged in three places (near footboard, images attached). Initially he tried to convince me that such damages do happen with these kind of bed and tried to fix the same using some fevikwik. When he could not manage to do that, he said sir please raise a complaint. I did the same both with the store and also with the call center (Complaint N0-[protected]).

Three days later two person arrived at my place with the replacement part (Footboard). It was sealed pack footboard. When they opened the sealed pack, to my utter surprise it was exactly damaged in the same places where it was initially damaged by Mr.Babu. These two people tells me that this usually the problem with these kinds of bed and particularly with this model.

With this I lost a faith on this model and approached the outlet again. I met Ms.Shanthi at the outlet who was very helpful in listening to my complaint and also trying out of her ways to resolve it. I decide to take another model which was slightly costlier and paid the difference amount of Rs.3000/- again. It was informed that within a weeks time the new bed would get delivered and one day before delivering new bed, old damaged bed would be taken back. Well I haven't got any news on the new bed yet, however every second day I get a call from the store telling me that they are coming to collect the damaged bed.

I am just sick and tired of all these. I bought this bed for my parents who moved down to Bangalore after my fathers retirement. There are stuffs which I need to put inside the storage which I could not do till now and all these are lying scattered in my room. As I write this email another person called me and informed that he is coming to collect the old bed. I am fed up and asked him to do so. I also messaged Ms.ShantI that if I don't get my new bed by tomorrow, I would want my 100% refund with a letter of apology from the store manager.
