Manhattan Credit Card — Poor customer care leading to charges more than 7k

Dear Sir,

Standard charted bank is providing Manhattan credit card with first year free on trial basis and there after with an annual charge of Rs1000. At the time of application bank executives confirms that customer care will call the customer before continuing the card after the trial period and if your credit card usage is good the same will be waived off. You will not see these conditions on any application form.

I also got the same commitment in the year 2010 based on which I applied for the card. I used the card for the entire year. But to my surprise I did not received any confirmation call and on the other hand the annual charges were added to my credit card statement. I then called up customer care and told them to reverse the charges or cancel the credit card. They agreed to reverse the annual charges but this time as well they surprised me by not reversing the annual charges. instead they just reversed the latepayment charges. Post that I sent repeated reminders to the bank's customer care and the head customer care. They kept on replying with different answers every but neither reversed the charges nor cancel the credit card. After 9 months of this communication they finally reversed the annual charges. Now the late payment charges due to the non payment of the annual charges is more than 7 times the annual charges which they have refused to reverse.

Now they have even stopped responding to the emails. Could you please suggest some steps that I can take to close this issue without paying any such charges.
