[Resolved]  Reader's Digest — Non receipt of cash winnings

Address:West Tripura, Tripura

Sir,

I have been the consumer of famous journal namely Reader's Digest India since last 40 years. Recently I have been declared as winner of Chairman's Promptness Prize worth Rs.4 lacs and also declared the winner of Ambassador of Honour entitling me to be the winner of Rs. 6 lacs (Rupees six lacs) being annual Chest Prize, further I won Super Grand Prize of Rs.30 lacs, Car Prize of Rs.16 lacs and requesting me to purchase articles, books and DVDs etc. as one of the main conditions for winning the cash prize (though it is not obligatory to purchase those articles as mentioned in every documents & correspondences, and to receive the awarded amount, I had/ have been purchasing for several thousands of rupees for the articles which is absolutely of no use of mine but as it is one of the criteria for the winnings, I paid regularly a handsome amount towards the purchse. After declaration as the winner of the Ambasador of Honour worth Rs.6 lacs I have duly sent the required information along with the reply envelop and several others within the time specified by the Committee. It is surprising that after lapses of a reasonable period, I have not been received the winnings and after several correspondences through mail and registered post, Mr. Manas Mohan, Chairman of the Reader's Digest did not even feel it necessary to send reply but surprisingly I am informed from the local office that 3/4 packets of books and other articles are awaited to release. I however, did not release those articles.

As a matter of fact though it is said to have been not obligatory to purchase the articles but it is one of the main criteria to be the winner and in this way the authority is adopting the practice of selling bogus articles to the innocent consumer. I have been purchasing Books, DVDs, CDs etc as per their correspondences and catalogue annexed therewith, with the hope that I would be receiving the winnings since I have been declared as the winner. I shall produce the photocopies of such confirmation letters declaring me the winner as and when asked for.
Since I have been declared as the winner and won Rs.6 lacs for the Ambassador of Honour by the committee of the Readers’ Digest, I am entitled to get my winnings as mentioned in their letters and correspondences.
I am a senior citizen and such types of fraudulent act is unbearable to me. I am in great anxiety and mental agony deserve to get my winnings as early as possible. I am in urgent necessity of the amount of Rs.6 lacs for the award of Ambassador or Honour as declared for my treatment outside.
I think I am the consumer for last 40 years and I have been deceiving by the concerned authority of the Reader’s Digest frequently, and as such I shall have no other alternative but to approach before the appropriate legal authority for early redress. I have required documents in support of my claim.
