[Resolved]  Share Autos — Share Autos Menace in Chennai

Chennai is one of the major cities of India and the population has increased so much that people needed an alternative method of transportation, apart from the buses, trains and autos. And to cope up with this increased demand for transportation, came a novel thing, share autos. They are also called meter taxis, whereas they don't have meters and are not taxis. The liberal policy of the governments, of giving permits in large numbers of persons to operate these share autos has created chaos and confusion in the roads of Chennai. These share autos violate every norm of the rules and regulations laid. They over load every time, stop right in bus stops, overspeed always, violate all the rules which are to be followed when driving, pollute the environment to a great deal and on top of all these, never switch off their engines, right from morning to night, which leads to collosal waste of fuel. The hardships which people undergo right from the stages of exploration to the final stages of refining is not known to these illiterate drivers and they waste the precious fuel, which is a heart breaking sight.
These share autos park right in places near bus stand, in very large numbers, leading to traffic jams in those areas.
Added to all these share autos/meter taxis, a new vehicle, Tata Magic has been sighted, off late, which are the latest addition to this menace.
The police don't care for the safety of the public travelling in these share autos. They don't care for the safety of the other users of the road.
Its high time, a full stop is put to these share autos, meter taxis and Tata Magic. It is for the safety of everybody using the road and also to curtail pollution and to avoid fuel wastage.
Chennai is a big metro and doesn't need such means of transportation. We have an efficient bus system in place. We have our suburban trains and MRTS. Soon, we will be having our metro rail as well.
Wish the police take some action to ensure that these drivers drive safely. Meanwhile, its the RTO and the transport department of tamilnadu, who have to take steps to put an end to these share autos, meter taxis, tata magic to ensure safety of people, to ensure less pollution and to ensure that fuel will not be wasted by these people operating such crude means of transportation, which is seen in isolated places and under developed countries.
