[Resolved]  Tvs Scooty Pep — Service fraud

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

This is more of a request to tvs to look into what i am sure is a fraud being done by their authorised service centre at electronic city bangalore (m/s sv motors).

My daughter owns a tvs scooty pep, rarely used. on 01 dec 2010 the scooty suddely stopped and could not be started as the kick pedal seemed jammed. this was towed to the nearest tvs service centre.

The workshop incharge mr manjunath stated that possibly engine has seized and needs to be opened to check, which was agreed to. after 3 days giot a call from him that the engine need to be overhauled and he gave an estimate of rs 5000/-. on a visit to the workshop a opened engine parts including piston etc were shown stating that this was the engine. go ahead for doing necessary repairs was given.

On 8th dec was informed that the scooty was ready. on checking the vehicle at the workshop observed that there was a strange sound when the engine was started. was told that this was due to a clutch plate which was not in stock and it is ok (!). on insistence that this be made good, he stated that the spares would be available only by 10th which was also agreed to,
On taking delivery of the vehicle on 15th dec when asked as to how many kilometers the "new built" engine had any restrictions on s[peed was told that there was no such requirement.

I did inspect the scooty on the following weekend and found to me what appears to be:

1. only the transmission side seemed to have been opened and the kick pedal repaired. this casing was cleaned externally.
2. the engine cylinder head had the old mud cake all over including on the screws and cylinder head and did not seem to have been opened at all.
3. on further examination it was seen that the engine side had not been touched, even the engine oil level was low!!.

The bill for engine overhaul (cash bill no 394-396 dt 8.12.2010) showed all engine parts incl valves, cyl bore etc replaced! on taking the scooty back to tvs service centre mr manjunath again claims that the engine was overhauled!

My request is not to make any claims on tvs (i accept that i was an to trust the service centre) but to know if tvs would be interested in inspecting the scooty by their expert and verify my findings, just so that they can possibly take corrective measures so that another customer is not taken for a rise by sv motors. i am willing to make the scooty available for this and will not use it u8ntil they decide to examine this, in a reasonable time frame. my request is just to know the truth and also forewarn other clients.

Would appreciate a response one way or other from tvs. rest assured i am not expecting any refund etc. further if i am proved wrong i am willing to pay tvs for the expert examination, subject to this being done in my presence, as i am certain of the factual correctness of my findings.

I am also going through the same kind of problem. My Scooty pep plus suddenly stopped and not starting. The service centre guy is telling that the engine is seized and can be repaired on a cost of 7000 rupees. I have not taken any decision yet. Still, it is in the service centre. I'm getting whom to ask for advice.
i am also facing same problem with TVS authorised service center guys in my home town(Thirumal TVS Showroom, Godavarikhani, karimnagar dist, telangana). they are ready to buy my scooty pep for 10K instead of repairing. they told that if i want to repair it the cost is estimated near to 10K. all TVS showroom service centers are fraud.. its better to not buy TVS bikes.
My daughter has pep+ and cost given by agency for repair is INR 12000/-.
