[Resolved]  University Of Petroleum And Energy Studies (UPES) — Harassment and Illogical Rules of the University

This is to inform you that the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is working on rules which are completely illogical and senseless. Take for example my case. I missed a month of college in the second semester due to severe illness and fatigue. So that means i could not attend classes even if I wanted to. I being from Delhi and staying in a hostel in Dehradun could not cope up with the pain and agony. Thats why I had to go back home to consult my doctor and get the required treatment. I submitted my medical certificates and all my lab reports citing the reason of my absence and also to prove that my absence from the classes was due to a genuine reason. Now that the second semester exams are starting shortly, i get to know that i have been debarred from 2 subjects. That means I cant appear in the exams of those 2 subjects. The University charges 1500/- per subject for special exams. I pleaded my entire faculty team, even the dean of the college of engineering o[censored]PES, to allow me to appear in the exams but they are not ready to do so. The reason stated by them is that I dont have the attendance which is required to sit in the exams after submitting the medical certificate, ie, 67%. I would like to highlight the fact that a person cannot have 67% attendance if out of the 4 prescribed months of the semester he has been ill for almost a month and a half. The main reason that they are not allowing me to sit in the exams is that they would lose on their 3000/- Rs. Thus I just want to say that please give a deep thought about the condition of the University before sending your child to study here because this college only focusses on money making and not on shaping the future of the students studying here.

All of you are retarded. Universities matter, but to an extent. Where you end up in life is entirely up to you. If you are passionate about something, you are bound to succeed. Before commenting on public forums, you all should learn proper English. No wonder as to why our country is on a downward spiral. If people suck, the country will obviously suck.
I agree to you friend...You have a genuine reason and the university must take some attention to this.
THe university needs to ammend over some of the rules they have, made...
God bles you yar..
AND HEY OUT THERE>>>SOMEONE COME ON HELP HIM YAR!
I do not agree with this. I'm a Passout o[censored]PES, and i know very well how they Function. Your illness might be Genuin, no doubt on that, But even after that, U must have missed/skipped/bunked classes, as a result of which your attendence is still not catching up.
You are right my friend.

This is really a fraud university its job is to make million of dollars from Indian student by selling degrees. Before the admission upes will show you very attractive add a good job possibility but once you come in you totaly destroyed your skills and after comleting this coarse you will not get any jobs.
Standard o[censored]pes is very low quality of faculty is very bad. If you want to waste your life and money then come.

Hi Friends,

Waiting for your feedback guys...
University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Located at Dehradun with main campus in Bidholi village 25 km from main city. This a private university operated be some corporate businessman’s. I have in person studied and worked here for a total of five years. I think it my duty to provide an insight incidences/happening about UPES which might help you in taking your decision about this University.
My observations are as follows:
Merits:
1. The location o[censored]PES is just behind Mussorie hills. There also trekking route from UPES back gate to mussorie with a fishing point (river) in between. Also the campus is neat and clean and well maintained. I consider it an option to tour UPES for a few days if you have some time. This only merit it has right now.
Demits:
1. The actual fees (not fees structure) and other expenses like industrial tour, summer classes, reevaluation, direct study, corticated issue, library and other activities are very high. If you are on a student loan then kindly avoid this university and you will not able to clear your loan on your salary and in the end become a bank defaulter at a young age.

2. Teaching and research quality is poor and mismanaged also.

3. Placement cells officials treat the final year students badly when they contently enquire about a job offer. Placement is very poor means up to 40-50%; with most of the jobs in hand salary is approximately 15, 000 Rupees per month. They will show you tall promises and companies coming but in actuality they are not capable enough to put their 3rd year students of engineering in summer internship also. In the end they pressurize student to go and get it on their own. You can verify this with 4th year students in private.

4. This time in year 2016 almost 50% seats in engineering are lying vacant in UPES. For a glimpse Power system Engineering registered students 5 out of 60, Electrical Engineering 30/60, Electronics Engg 25/60, Instrumentation 0/60, Energy trading 0/ 60, Mechanical Deptt 250/500, civil Engineering 30/60, Geoscience 30/60, Automotive Design Engg 45/60, Applied Petroleum 45/60 etc. In nut and shell UPES is a sinking ship now.

5. Faculty qualification and quality is questionable. 90 % faculty are Ph. D. from UPES itself or are pursuing Ph. D. from there, which believe is worthless degree of this University. This university do not any research facility, software (in actual), IEEE full fledge subscriptions etc. Everything is for formality or on paper. They teach their faculty to be nicely dressed like a gentleman that’s it.

6. One faculty of law cores was caught taking bribe (cash) for increasing their attendance is his course. Seldom faculty asks for alcohol, wine etc. for marks or attendance. You can verify this online.

7. One dean was caught asking for sexual favor from girl students by calling them at his residence. This you can too verify.

8. NAAC committee which provides grades to Indian Universities as per their performance has awarded Grade ‘C’ to UPES because of its worst academic performance and this is the lowest grade awarded to any Indian university. You can directly verify this from UPES as they do not disclose this information.

9. They tried many times to get rid of C grade called NAAC for reevaluation but still they gave honestly C grade.

10. They do not provide course books study material to students from the library so as to cover all the courses of a semester. They will charge you full for the books will provide you 3-4 books for a semester, ask you to buy others own your own and take the issued one back and then again issue then to juniors after taking money from them. Verify this too directly from the librarian face to face.

11. Engineering degrees given by UPES are not accepted for government jobs. 100 % verify this from passed out. This true for 80% degrees o[censored]PES and mostly students came to know this when they apply for a government job and go for an interview. Students went for strike due to this in UPES for 15 days but nothing happened. In the end they say government jobs are boring go for private jobs.

12. Laboratories in UPES are in worst of its state do visit them. Except (Physics & chemistry labs which are average) all other labs worst than labs in other small private colleges in terms of lab space, technicians, equipment quality, latest experiments, working condition of software available. UPES spends least money on labs, keep a note of this point.

13. Sold out, yes UPES is sold out to laureate group whose sole purpose is only to increase its profits. This is despite of the fact that UPES call itself a non profit organization. Various cases in uttarakhand courts are registered on UPES in issues like this.
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Village Bidholi, Dehradun offers courses in Engineering, Management and Law courses. I just want to raise or say just put forward some genuine points about UPES, Dehradun:
 Your placement was never 100% since inception. This is well known to everyone working there but on paper you forge it. UPES is master of forgery!
 HOD of electronics Engineering Department is facing CBI enquiry because he forged his Ph. D. and become Ph. D. guide of many students whose carrier is still hanging. Not only had you offered him job but fake and worthless UPES Ph. D. degree too. Why because 420 people are liked by 420 organizations.
 This time admission is 600 students less than last year i.e. 2015 in engineering courses and claim yourself world class! Shame on you.
 There no research facility or lab equipments required for research, then you come so many Ph. D. coming out from UPES. Obviously fake degree.
 Engineering graduates from many braches get merely 15, 000 Rs per month and still you are proud of your placement.
 One company like Larsen and turbo comes and say your courses are outdated for civil engineering and still you are continuing with that course. Pity on your civil students.
 In many cases after the semester is ended there is always a course or lab which is not conducted throughout the semester and you still manage it proudly! Great managements.
 Regarding attendance they are always on flip flop between manual and card punching system o[censored]PES. Some faculty debars students based on online attendance some based on manual attendance. In nut and shell if you are attending classes then also you can be debarred. I personally suffered due this faulty system. Great UPES!
 I do not claim all but 80% faculties o[censored]PES are worthless. Neither they know how to teach nor how to handle students. There no fixed criteria for post or salary for faculty e.g. N B Soni HOD of Electrical department is just M. Tech. and is Associate Professor! And is about to become Professor after completing worthless Ph. D. from UPES.
 Dean Dr. Kamal Bansal Ph. D. from UPES is neither interested in taking classes nor is research oriented. Honestly interested in politics only! Great Dean
 VC Dr. Shrihari is like a pawn with no courage or inner strength.
 Some faculties are M. Sc. Or MCA and still teaching in Engineering and are awarded Ph. D. degrees from UPES! Milestone in teaching
 They will force you to spend full 2 hrs in a lab which is not fit for spending 15 mins also.
 You know Kamal Bansal became dean and Professor as soon as he got his Ph. D. degree, Why? Because is always interested in Palm greasing of Management.
 They start any course without any on ground preparation just because we fool students take admission in that course just by looking at it’s name.
 In M. Tech. Energy System students are placed in tour and travel agencies as booking clerk, just to show 100% placement.
I am about to take admission in UPES dehradun (MBA in Power management). Could, you please tell me is it good choice for power management in working professionals after completing my studies, & placements or else suggest me which universities are good for this program. Does this program have good scope in future in this university?...

UPES has overall placement of above 85% and that is the case with MBA as well. Students from UPES Dehradun are accepted all over India and opting to study in this university is a good option.
Your choice MBA in power management is a good choice due to its scope.
