[Resolved]  Auto Fare — Unreasonably high auto rickshaw fares in Navi Mumbai

Dear Sir,

I detest the arm twisting tactics deployed by auto unions to put undue pressure on RTO to increase the auto fares and then not to decrease them despite a huge fall in petrol prices (inspite of the fact that most of them still ply on CNG and make lame excuses that they have to wait in long queues which is totally baseless). I wonder how the RTO which was so fast in increasing the auto fares when petrol prices were hiked, is now so despondent and slow to react to a price fall in petrol. Some basic facts need to be well understood:

1) Minimum fare is now Rs 13 with Re 1.50 increase for every tick on the meter which culminates into an exorbitant sum. The Re 1.50 hike is more pinching than the minimum fare of Rs 13. How could the RTO sanction this extravagant rate card in August 2008 without even bothering to reckon consumer opinion?

2) Fares were hiked from Rs 9 to Rs 10 to Rs 10.50 to Rs 11 and then to Rs 11.50 in a jiffy; 4 times already before the 5th and final Rs 13. The same speed does not work for a reduction in fares.

3) In Mumbai the minimum fare continues to be Rs 9 and they run on CNG.

4) Auto drivers in Navi Mumbai argue they do not get CNG and hence have to run on petrol which is rubbish as many of them do ply on CNG and still charge Rs 13 which is enormous for a CNG auto. How come the RTO was so diffident in separating fare structure for CNG run and petrol run rickshaws in Navi Mumbai?

5) Each time fares have to be hiked in Navi Mumbai, autos have to go on a strike to pressurize their demand for increasing fares and RTO easily succumbs to it without any resistance. Why??

6) Even consumers need to have a lobby to pressurize their demands and exercise their common rights.

Hope the reluctant higher authorities are hearing this.

Hi

I am a resident of Kharghar Navi Mumbai.

Everyday i have to travel by auto and the drivers always demand unreasonable fares. Severaltimes have I taken them to cops but the only relief was when I had taken an auto driver to Nerul Police Station. Otherwise Kharghar police are most reluctant to even file a case against them. RTO in Kharghar is not to be seen...there is no one to regulate these monsters. RTO police is most of the times seen once in a month in kharghar standing near hiranandani...stopping every vehicle and collecting money for some or the other reason. Else they are never there.

Who is there to help us out? Even a journey from CBD Depot to Kharghar Sector 12 costs 100 bugs which is exoritant and that too for the reason that kharghar comes in Raigad and they do not follow meter system. Even during the day times half return is charged. Who is to be blamed for this and held accountable??????

I think this is one of the reasons for maligned image of RTO cops...

Auto fare — Claiming high fare without metre

Iam Jayalakshmi (Kanakadasa Beedi, Kalkere) lodging this compliant against the auto drivers in Kalkere, Ramurthynagar area.

The auto drivers in Ramurthynagar, Kalkere area do not run on metres. The distance between Ramurthynagar and Kalkere is just 3 kms. If the auto drivers run on metre, the fare is only minimal. There is no proper bus facility to Kalkere from Ramurthynagar. Taking that as on advantage, the autodrivers in Ramurthynagar charge straight forward Rs. 40 - 50 without metre, when questioned them, they say we will have to return back empty and the roads are not good. Kalkere is developing now, densely populating. There are many students, jobbers travelling by bus.Since there is no bus facility, we have to rely on ricksaws.

I personally experienced this issue with the auto rickshaws. It is difficult for any working person or a student to pay Rs. 50/- for an auto with a distance of just 3kms. Paying for auto rs. 50x30 days = 3000/- instead of 17x30 days = 510/- . Look at the big difference. That is what i mean to tell. Autodrivers are cheating, pulling money from the middle men.

Please look into this matter.
Still we are paying minimum charge as Rs. 16 and there is no valid reason yet.
Now there are so many CNG Pumps are available then why it is Rs. 16?????
Why not all Rikshwas are converted to CNG??(Why petrol rikshaws are on road?? What is Traffic control board is doing???)
As per my knowledge, 70-80% autos are running on CNG in Navi Mumbai and asking fare w.r.t. Petrol cards.
In Mumbai n Thane minimum fare is Rs. 11. then why should we pay such high amount??
Even paying such high amount we are not getting the pleasant service from them.
They are so arrogant and always refuses the short fares.
