Great Eastern Appliances — Warranty period confirmed by the seller time of purchase was of 10 years, but the product got delivered with a warranty period of 5 years only

I, sananda bhattacharjee (Email: [protected]@gmail.com) purchased a refrigerator (Videocon ff 190l) on 30th july from great eastern kolkata (Tollygunge branch). At the time of purchase, the seller named biplob mukherjee (Mobile: [protected]) said that the warranty on the compressor for that refrigerator is of 10 years. So, i happily purchased that.

The next day, on 31st july, when the refrigerator got delivered along with the warranty card, i found that the compressor had only 5 years of warranty instead of 10 years! It was a sunday night and as i am a working woman, i decided to visit the showroom again on the next weekend to sort this out.

On 5th of august, i visited the showroom to sort out the discrepancy. On that day too, the seller, biplob was saying that the refrigerator has a warranty of 10 years! So, they verbally apologized for the miscommunication and assured me that they will help me with this and they will communicate with the company to extend the warranty period. They said that they will notify me by a week.

I did not receive any communication from great eastern for two weeks and finally visited the showroom again on 20th of july. That day, they completely denied the fact that they have ever said the warranty period of 10 years! They asked me to prove that biplob has ever said the warranty period was of 10 years!

Is it really possible to prove what someone has said? Was i aware that this blunder would happen to me and i had to record the conversation??? At the time of purchase, won't i trust on the seller's statements? If they are like this, it could have also happened that they might have shown some other refrigerator's papers to me. How could i be able to identify? They are not delivering the warranty card hand on hand. So, how will the buyers check this? They will have to search on google!!! So, what is the point of purchasing from a showroom, that too a supplier chain like great eastern? Online purchase is easier and more trustworthy than this!

Firstly, i would expect a formal written apology from great easter for the harassment. Also if they are unable to extend the warranty, i want them to take back the refrigerator and refund of my money back.

Apologies! The last visit date has wrongly been mentioned as 20th of July, it should be 20th of August.
