Kaiser Movers And Packers — 80% loss of household goods in accident, no insurance coverage, false promises

In June 2015, we chose Kaiser Movers and Packers for shifting the entire household (goods worth 5-8 lakhs) for relocating from Pune to Kharagpur. The cost of packing and transportation amounted to about Rs 50, 000 and we also payed a premium for an insurance coverage of Rs 1, 20, 000. It turned out to be an experience of complete loss and nightmares. After not receiving the shipment at Kharagpur, upon repeated enquiries we were told that the truck met with an accident (most likely June 16th). It had turned over and fallen into a water-logged ditch. They mentioned that most of our packages are badly damaged and beyond recovery. After this it took us another long week of constant followup to obtain what was left from the accident. It was just rubble. Unfortunately, around 80% of the household was lost: either missing, or rain and mud- soaked or broken and damaged beyond any repair. This includes the complete furniture of a 3BHK home as well as all appliances and electronics. Finally, after weeks of severe harrasment, they paid us 60, 000 Rs ONLY as compensation. While we understand that an accident is not intentional, the specific complaints are: 1. They charged us for insurance but did not file the claim, thus making it impossible for us to retrieve any amount from the insurance company. 2. They do not have their own logistics, even though their attractive brochure shows pictures of fancy trucks, which are complete fakes. They use ordinary trucks (not even covered on top; we have photographic evidence) from 3rd grade transport companies which hold up goods for days with various stories. 3. Kaiser demands full payment right at the beginning with zero guarantee of safe delivery.
