My father Mr. Bimal Bhowmik(Patient ID : [protected]) was admitted to Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Kolkata on 22nd july under Dr. N P Bohidar for a PEG tube insertion. My father is a MND patient for more than a year. As our neurologist Dr Amlan Mandal suggested, we went for the endoscopic peg tube insertion procedure under Dr Bohidar. As his advice we admitted him on 22nd July a day before the procedure. I didn't understand why he was admitted a day before when they did no test or diagnosis. On the next day he was sent to the endoscpy room from his ward for the procedure. But he was kept in that room to wait for more than an hour. When we asked why he is kept waiting they said as other patients will take less time thy are are doing theirs first. My father needs oxygen support, he was a serious patient.when they had to keep him waiting he could have stayed in his ward. I was stunned by their casual approach and mismanagement. After the long wait they took him inside the room where the procedure was supposed to happen. After some time we were called inside and doctor told us that they couldn't perform it, as his oxygen level fell below par and he needs to be shifted to ITU. We agreed. After a while the doctors came out of ITU and told us he is currently in ventilation support and in a very critical condition . My questions are : i) Why they didnt ask for our permission before putting him in ventilation. ii) why were we not told about any risk regarding the procedure. iii) Why didnt Dr Bohidar check him before, to understand whether he will be able to take the procedure. The doctors are defending by saying it was sudden accident. I felt there was a casual approach altogether. Now by dad is living his days on ventilation support system The bill they have given is huge and unreasonable .Admitting him in this hospital was a big mistake. Even support staffs, security guards are very slow and behaves very rudely with patient relatives. I suggest every one to think hundred times before admitting anyone in this hospital!
