I am writing to bring to your attention an unpleasant experience I had during a recent visit to the Cardiology department at St. John’s Hospital.
I had consulted Dr. Srilakshmi for evaluation of chest pain. I was accompanied by my daughter, who is currently pursuing her postgraduate training at your institution. Upon entering the consultation room, the doctor addressed my daughter in a dismissive and discourteous tone, questioning why I had been brought in. When my daughter explained my symptoms, the response was unprofessional, suggesting that as a medical graduate she should have evaluated me herself.
Following this interaction, I was not examined by Dr. Srilakshmi at all. Instead, I was attended by a postgraduate student, who took some details and provided forms before asking us to leave. At no point did the consulting cardiologist assess my condition directly.
As a patient presenting with chest pain, I expected a thorough evaluation and a basic level of professionalism and empathy. The manner in which this consultation was handled felt both dismissive and negligent, and was particularly disappointing given the reputation of your institution. Was this information helpful? |
