United States Postal Service — Priority Mail - Scam

May 1st 2015- I was in San Diego, Calif. and I mailed a priority mail box to myself in Maryland (I was going on a trip to China and couldn't take items with me that I had aquired on my visit to Calif.) Cost to mail including additional insurance was over $60 I arrived home June 8th - found "my" box in complete shambles. The original box I had mailed was replaced with a different box and the top of my original box was taped to the "new" box. All of my contents had either been seriously damaged or gone missing. Example: Solid Brass platter was bent in half, brass candle stick holders were broken at the welding, glass vase - only a small piece of it remained, brass cricket house damaged beyond recognition, brass tea set from India with inlaid stones half of the set was missing as well as a mini set gone... Norwegian Troll antique was a mess all original tags missing, vintage camera missing.. the list continues, but, you get the . I filed my claim on line with USPS, took pictures etc. I received a letter telling me to take it to my Lex. Park, post office, I turned it in on June 22 and was told theyd look at it and I would need to pick it back up in 1 - 2 weeks. I heard nothing from them and called USPS - I was then told I hadn't submitted proof of postage insurance( I bought it from USPS but I had to provide them the proof?) So I made a copy of it as well as printed out any info. to prove value of my antiques - some of these had been in the family for 30+ years and went to the local post office on July 9th and turned everything I had to them. They now had everything, proof of insurance, my box with all the contents I had received, proof of value from research from various online places etc. I then had to leave town non July 16. Having no info from them. I receive notice that my claim has been denied due to my not providing info. with in the time frame. (I had done everything) there was no communication from them at any time saying things were not correct, etc... There seems to be no communication between their claims department and the local branches, . This is the second time I have had to file a claim. Last time it was denied but I did not pursue it because it was only a $20 value. The item was lost and when I sent an inquiry they told me to wait 2 more weeks, i did and when I filed a claim they told me I was outside the time limit. (even though I had emails from them showing my first inquiry about a claim was with in the time frame)
