Bilcare Ltd. — Inherited FD
My late mother had a INR 10L FD maturing on Dec 2015. As she had passed away in Oct 2015 and Bilcare defaulted on repayment of principal, it issued a fresh FD for 5 years to me, the nominee, using my mother's Pune address and her bank a/c, to which I was a signatory. However, I am a US citizen and US resident, with no ties of any kind to India, apart from a NRO a/c with HDFC. Per Bilcare's own rules, they cannot register the INR 8L FD under my name and US address now as only Indian citizens and/or residents can be holders. Neither are they willing to transfer INR 2L which has been redeemable for over a year to my HDFC NRO a/c, as they claim that that is not possible, although a NRO a/c can accept domestic inflows. They refuse to redeem the INR 8L deposit, too, although they will not register me as a FD holder. Was this information helpful?
