[Resolved]  Air France — SUPER DELAY IN BAGGAGE DELIVERY

I am a teaching faculty in a pharmacy college in Mumbai and I attended a conference on Natural Products- Chemistry, Medicine and Biology scheduled from[protected] to[protected]. I travelled to Rome by Air France airlines on September 4, 2010. The flight was Mumbai-Paris-Rome. When I reached Rome airport my baggage did not reach Rome by the same flight as me. I waited for my baggage for 2 hours with no sign of luggage and NO INFORMATION from the airline Air France that my baggage had not arrived along with me. After waiting for 2 hours I made a complaint at the Alitalia customer service desk at Rome airport. They assured me that my baggage would reach my destination and will be delivered to my hotel as soon as possible meaning by the next flight from Paris -Rome and they would see that it is delivered to my hotel. I also deposited the keys of my baggage with them and gave the lock code in case the Customs want to open the bag. In this entire exercise I missed my train from Rome to Sapri and had to catch the next train which was after 2 hours and I had to purchase a new ticket as my earlier reservation became invalid. I underwent a lot stress in trying to reach the venue of the conference. I reached at 10 pm in the night as against 5 pm in the evening as planned by me. The baggage did not arrive the next day i.e on 6-09-10 and i received a telephone call from the airport saying that my baggage had reached Naples and i will have to go and pick it up from the airport because they (the airport people lost the keys). Naples is 200km away from my conference hotel in Sapri. I had to leave on the morning of[protected] to pick up my baggage from Naples airport. I spent an entire day in this exercise, spent 100 euros on travel to Naples airport and missed one entire day of the conference. The baggage contained my research poster to be presented for which I had travelled all the way to Italy. I was unable to put up my poster as my baggage did not arrive with me and did not get delivered to me as promised by the airport staff. I had to spend three days in the same clothes, with no toiletries and endure too much stress and frustration of not putting up the research poster, and not having anything with me. this is highly irresponsible behaviour by Air France something that cannot be pardoned. Air France has to be put to task and they should give me a compensation as my entire trip to Italy was futile because i could not participate with my research poster and missed an entire day and reached late for the first day of the conference. They have been responsible for subjecting to me to high stress situation of travelling alone at night in a place like italy where people do not really understand english much. I have actually spent my four months salary on this trip which has been such a waste due to the gross negligence and irresponsible behaviour of Air France. I am wondering as to how this airline can have such a careless attitude and still get away with it. I request the consumer forum to please help me in this case and provide appropriate help. I want to go to consumer court but i do not know how to do this.

we travelled with airfrance from Birmingham to Rome via Paris. one of our suitcase was delayed for 2 days. we don't know if it is worth writing to the airline as our whole trip was ruined as we only went for 3 days and 4 nights.
