[Resolved]  Apollo — Denied admission

If anyone has any doubt that once called Noble Profession is now became a profitable institution may clear the doubts from the instance mentioned below.

I am talking about Dr Debasis Biswas, Neotia and Apollo Hospital, Kolkata at EM By-pass; a day on 22-10-08 & 23-10-08.

My son who was merely 21 days old born at Neotia Hospital under the care of Dr Debasis Biswas has developed a breathing trouble from morning of 22-10-08, which worsens by evening. We have contacted the Dr. seveal times over the phone and wanted his opinion throughout the day, but in the evening when the child was grunting due to pain we have no option left rather to admit him in a hospital. Again we have contacted the Dr. for his condition and told him that we are going to admit him in neotia hospital, but the Dr said the Neotia doesn't have any room left. Again i called up Neotia and asked them what i want is an emergency admission of my son and attendence at your hospital where he borned; they confirmed they can't admit him neither provide any assistance on this issue.

Again i called up Dr. and asked him where he can be admitted, he said go to Apollo Hospital, admit him and i shall see him tommorow mornig! Anyway we have left for Apollo Hospital EM By-Pass, Kolkata at 23:36 on 22-10-08; we reached there at emergency gate and asked the reception person to admit him. The person said keep your child with the mother there(pointing towards a bed) and you come with me to fulfill some formalities. I went with him keeping my son with my wife who is almost pale with pain and his body is cold; but the next word from the hospital nominated person made me colder, he said
"you deposit Rs. 70, 000 in cash then only we can start treatment/ attendance of your child" I was stunned really stunned.

In a flash i caIculated that i have 10, 000 cash with me i can manage 40, 000 withdrawls from ATM, but i am short of 20, 000, i told the person but he said this is the PROCEDURE LAID DOWN BY THE HOSPITAL AUTHORITY.

In the mean time Dr Debasis Biswas my sons child specialist asked a lady RMO to attend my child, who saw him and said he has nasal blockage nothing else, he will be fine by morning. They compelled me for out patient registration by Rs. 200 and said you can leave now.

The next i went to AMRI, admitted my son by 5000 advance, they diagonsed him with acute lungs infection (broncho pheumonia) and the RMO said if you haven't came by today most probably tommorow we cannot helped you out. Son has been released from the hospital on 30-10-08, with no complications.
Can anybody solve this jugglery: Govt hospital is cheap but they don hav Doctor, Infrastructure and Equipment and Private Hospital will cut your throat, yes they hav Doctor, Infrastructure and Equipment; now where the poor people will go?
