I agree with your point, Since Jan 26th 2007 State govt has instructed autos to run on electronic meters but till today I have not seen a single auto running on meter, they overcharge like any thing. Fail to understand what govt authorities are doing about it. Seems in Chennai Auto drivers have more importance then common citizen. Any body listining...
I completely agree. The autorikshaw charges are very astronomical as compared to any other metros in India.
We all basically need to understand why all the auto drivers never put the meter and double charge. Its all because most(50 %) of the auto's are owned by people working in the police department and they rent these auto to auto driver's on per day rent basis. So if a common man gives a complaint on an auto driver for not taking the meter charges, the complaint becomes null and void if the auto belongs to the police people. so this the base problem why any police is not taking action against the auto drivers for not putting the meters.
This scenario can be changed if a public interest case is filed in the courst .
This scenario can be changed if group of common man submits a petition to the Distric Collector who is the sole supervisor of Law and Order.
This scenario can be changed if the common man avoids taking auto or share auto and also encourage others to follow the same. I know its very difficult, but still if we all follow this for some time, may be auto people might change and try to follow the rules and regulations.

Yes, I totally agree with this complaint. In TN no auto-rickshaw drivers putting meters or no meter at all in the vehicle. Tamil Nadu government should take necessary steps as soon as possible by seeing other nearest states like Andhra / Karnataka.

Please add this complaint - i want a severe action to be taken on TN-04 9925...He was such a rouge...i boarded him at Egmore railway station to Kilpauk, he was fine with 50 rs wen i spoke to him, his attitude was the worst while coming and he was very very rash in driving...and while i had given 100 RS-- He took away with out giving change and left behind me shouting...will this be possible to take any action against him...i am not concerned about the money, but i dont other public to get in to such a ...please do the needful...Is it really of any help posting in this site...i dont understand...

I am Arun Manavalan D. I am a Design Engineer working in a ship design consulting company. I would to ask you a question regarding the autorishaw charges.
Why government is not taking any action against autorishaw drivers for not running their meters. They charge the amount as they feel like. If a tourist is coming to chennai, they trick these people like anything. I had faced the same situation long back.
I see not a single autorishaw in Chennai or rather I should say in Tamil Nadu using meter charges. Now as the price or diesel/petrol, they have almost doubled their charges especially share auto from Thiruvanmiyur to Kottivakkam. Similar is the case in many other routes.
I plead you take severe and necessary action as it is a very serious problem faced by the middle class people as they have to pay 3-4 times the meter charges(if they have used the meter). I urge the government to bring laws to put an end to this problem.
If this is not the mail id to sent these grievances, please guide me to the respective persons.
