[Resolved]  Dell Inspiron 1525 — Plugged in, not charging

Yes, like everyone else, i was dupped by the dell (Yet again) i was not happy with my desk top from a few years back and i should have not repeated the same mistake, ordering from dell again! So, i am partially to blame! But i was in a bind and had to purchase a laptop fast and didn't have neither the time nor the resources to consider another alternative (Or at least a little more educated before making a costly commitment like this)!
Anyway, the problem with this "expensive piece of junk" is what plenty other people have noted: right after i ran out of warranty, the battery (Which was noit fully charging before) depleated to 85% (Even plugged in) and from 85 to 50% and soon after i am looking at 29% and it is going down 1% everyday. Again, please bare in mind that the computer is always plugged in and never on without external power.
I am so concerned and don't know what to do, as i have heard the replacement batteris are mostly refurbished and do the same thing after couple of months! So, that means even if i buy another battery, there is no guarantee that is going to last me any more than couple of months. Plus with today's economy, i can not effort buying a "new" batthery and pay for installation and check run, etc.. Etc.
So, please take this as a complain, from a very frustrated dell consumer or venting and my little way of expressing my huge disappointment with dell (With their hurrible india -based customer support) and if nothing can be done about my problem, at least someone could be saved from making the biggest mistake of their life: buying a dell notebook! Or dell of anykind!

Hey guys, I think this is a pbm related to hardware used in dell 1525 and windows vista. I had also bought Dell 1525 in April 2008 and is working ok. The battery just gives me 30-40 mins backup as on date (almost after 1.5 to 2 years). I also had windows vista but then immediately i loaded regular windows (within 2-3 months of buying my laptop) and it is working well. May be you guys need to uninstall Vista and load regular windows OS.

Dell Vostro 1088 — Windows 7

I've bought a Vostro 1088 in DOS on it. Later I put Vista on it. After a month I installed windows 7 on it. Now the problem is that whatever loader or activators I try I don't get it activated.. plz help...........

I bought DELL Inspiron 1525 in March 2008. I have Battery problem saying that plugged in and not charging. When the power goes off, automatically system will shut downs. Please help me what I have to do.

Believe it or not exactly after 16 days after my warranty ran out, my inspiron 1525 started showing "plugged in, not charging"- icon...when i called up the CC they asked for a full coverage or a baettery replacement of 4800INR minimum.
They have found a alternative option to earn good returns...by selling new batteries within a year...anyone reading this and planning to buy Dell, should get this message ...DO NOT BUY!

not only the battery will come up with issues..but also the whole laptop will will look withered within a year...and the CC won't empathize with you until you pay up in every problem you face

i brought this Del INSPRION 1545 laptop, in 2009 December, barely two months into using this expensive piece of junk, my adaptor gets heated, changed the adapter but of no use, battery doesn’t charge and touch pad does not work.
I did not buy the warranty as I thought it will work for at least a year

is there any way, i can sue this DELL for cheating me.

we all should bring awareness about DELL, I have advised all my friends and colleagues Not to buy DELL laptop, there customer service is the worst...they don’t know anything.

and they keep repeating the steps for all sorts of problems.

I too have this same problem with Dell Inspiron 1525. It is a little over one year old and one month after warranty expires, I get this "plugged in, not charging". I run the diagnostics and get error code: 3600:0749. I contact Dell and they tell me my motherboard needs to be replaced!
I have the same issue with INSPIRON 1526. Bought this little over a year ago and I get the "Plugged in, Not Charging". UURRGG

Wow. I don't feel bad because I'm not alone. Gotta Inspirion, 1525 with the same charging issue... but then again, I still do feel bad because we are all screwe&. Vista is way to large on this laptop. It makes it operate slow.
Agree, just had same problem with battery not holding its charge a couple of weeks ago so I bought another battery for it and received it today. The new 1525 battery isn't even detected. How ridiculous is that? Well done Dell, I hope you go under when enough people learn about your shoddy laptops.
My Dell Inspiron 1318 started displaying battery plugged in, not charging, just days after the 1 year warranty ran out. When you unplug the adapter from the computer, it shuts off, because the battery is at zero. I tryed wiggling the plug and tapping on the computer, no help. Then I unplugged the adapter from the computer and very quickly plugged it back in. The computer stayed on and it began charging. I hope this method will work next time. I have been happy with the Dell untill now. I hate Indian tech support. It takes away American Jobs. It is hard to communicate with them, and they don't understand electronics. I would pay gladly pay more for American tech support.

Dell / Model No S560842in8 — Battery backup

Dear Sir,
I have purchase a dell lap top from one of your dealer m/s Computer Network Services, Ranchi.( Jharkhand) with the giving commitment that battery backup, ( it gives long battery backup of more than 6-7 hours )
But I am very sorry to inform you that after several time to inform your Dealer that I am not getting backup as committed by you, they don’t bother to reply a single line to me or solve my problem. I feel like a cheated Man.
Kindly solve my problem or advice .as soon as possible.

Had the very same problem. PLUGED IN, NOT CHARGING... I rarely use my laptop outside of the house, so its not a massive problem. But obviously sometimes, i'd like to unplug it and move to a different room.
One of the comments above worked great. Its back charging as im writing this.

1.Shut Down
2.Unplug
3. Remove Battery
4.Hold power for 10 seconds
5. Wait 2 mins
6. Replace Battery
7. Plug In
8. Turn Back on.

Also, my laptop (INS 1525) is about 18 months old. And alot of the keys need to be pressed rather firmly. Anyone else have this issue

The same issue happened to me also with the same model DEL Inspiron 1525. Within 1.5 yrs my laptop battery gone. It is not at all getting charged. Now i am thinking to purchase a new laptop, but still searching for the good one. So my best advice is do not bye DEL systems.
