[Resolved]  Jet Airways — Missing baggage

Dear Sir,

I arrived in Chennai on Jetairways flight number 9W 225 from Newark via Brussels on August 12th 2008 at 5.20 am . The flight was delayed at Brussels. The scheduled arrival time in Chennai was 12.45 AM. One of my bags was misplaced and arrived only this morning. I had declared the contents of the missing bag to Jetairways customer service at Chennai airport on arrival. The contents included a new laptop computer costing U.S $ 1000. In the bag that arrived the laptop is missing. I contacted Jetairways customer service by phone[protected] and they asked me to send an email regarding this- the email was never replyed and I had to call Jet Airways on a daily basis. I still havent spoken with the baggage services manager. One junior employee told me that I should have paid a valuation charge at check in and only with payment of this charge would my valuables be guaranteed safe and me eligible for compensation. With all due respect I was not made aware of any valuation charges and was certainly not made aware of any of these rule prior to check in. I think its the duty of the airline to keep passengers aware of these rule prior to boarding and I do believe it is the airlines responsibility and fault in this matter. I have lodged a complaint in consumer forum and with the newspapers - as a frequent flyer from Newark to Chennai I feel cheated and the airline has been extremely unprofessional in its customer service with delays and inadequate information. I would warn other consumers to be aware of the airlines shortcomings.
Thank you, Tuhina Raman

Hi,

I travelled from Toronto to Delhi via Brussels flying Jet Airways. Landed in Delhi on the 4th of May. My baggage was missing and was only delivered 9 days after. I was asked by the concerned department (Ruchika...Lokesh??) to submit my eTicket (return to Toronto) for claim purposes. I had already done this on the 4th of May but still sent an email to baggageservices as adviced by a personel from the department. I have been told that the compensation has been approved from Mubai HQ, but I am still waiting to hear back. I am travelling to Toronto on the Saturday, 7th May, 2:45 am by Jet Airways (yet again) and am quite dissapointed by the level of service provided. Let me be clear that all the personnel i ahve spoken to thus far have been quite co-operative ; However, I am having to follow up continuosly on this and am not recieving any feedback unless i place the calls.

3 numbers were provided to me in this regard and even after trying for 3 days continuously they dont go through. the numbers are:

Please note that the lock on the baggage was also broken at the time of delivery and I had initimated the jet airways personel. I did not notice any missing items but again I would never know.

I hope some action will be taken upon this complaint.

I travelled from Pune to Lucknow via New Delhi on 1st Nov. 2010 Jet connect, on arrival learnt that one of my bag was missing, same was brought to the notice of the staff of “loss & found department” & also a complaint was lodged.
I was assured that the baggage would reach our home in Kanpur on 2nd morning, sorry to say that there has been no intimation from the jet airways.
Infact, I have made several calls , response has always been very disappointing saying that they have been unable to trace the baggage.

Kindly you tell me, what is the passenger suppose to do for no fault of his/hers.
On the contrary there were lot of essential & expensive things in the bag, as i was returning from Pune and was bringing gifts for my family and at the time of missing my bag was costing about Rs.10 Lakh including my clothes, shoes, perfume and gifts for my family. This has caused lot of inconvenience .
We only hope that we receive the bag intact & at the earliest.
THE BAGGAGE TAG NO.9W033004
Now as so many days are gone i want to claim a compensation frm jet airways of Rs.15 lakh as this has caused lot of inconvenience to me .

Waiting to hear from you asap,

Thanx & Regds,

I travelled from New York to Hyd on Jet Airways on March 9th and the airline lost my baggae. I called repeatedly and emailed many times but to no avail. My missing baggage number is HYD 9W16872.

It has been more than two months and they have neither found my bag nor compensated me. This is very shameful. I had an important and expensive car part in the box and had paid an additional $200 for additonal baggage.

REMINDER 2
See in attachment what happens in this Country and in India with your service.
My Deputy traveled from Nairobi to Lubumbashi in Inter-regional flight. His bag was left out in Nairobi. Flight reached Lubumbashi without bag. He was immediately given a voucher o[censored]SD 100 as per attachment to collect the same from their Sales offices but what you did to me? Its now 2 months and 22 days but you are still buying time and giving me fake promises.
I have made sure that I never buy Jet Air ticket in the future ever since this incidence happened with me and I have to travel India again on 2nd Oct 17 and I have purchased Indigo ticket between Bombay-Chandigarh Sector. This is all because of your hopeless approach to redress the grievance.
Can I hear from you soon ? Can you give the finality? I am waiting for your response so that I decide whether I should take legal route at the earliest.
Hoping to hear from you.
Regards.

Dear Narayan
Please find attached herewith the claim form duly filled-in alongwith scanned copies of relevant receipts.
Kindly get the following clarification below:
1. RWF stands for Rwandese Francs. The exchange rate at the time of purchase was 1 USD = 640 Rwf.
2. CDF stands for Congolese Francs. The exchange rate at the time of purchase was 1 USD = 1300 CDF. In Democratic Republic of Congo both local currency CDF and USD is used for transactions.
3. INR stands for Indian Rupees and
4. USD stands for United States of America Dollars and the exchange rate currently is 1 USD = 64.20 INR.
5. If we apply the conversion of all currencies; we come to the following sum:
RWF: 232, 355.00 equivalent to USD 363.00 equivalent to INR 23305.00
CDF : 77, 400.00 equivalent to USD 60.00 equivalent to INR 3852.00
USD: 241.32 equivalent to 15493.00
INR: 12, 010.00
TOTAL INR : 54, 660.00
Please note that above is actual loss amount. I am not claiming the parking fee that I paid 3 times to visit Chandigarh Airport apart from indirect losses on account of Mental duress, frustration and substantial wastage of my holidays as I had to visit several times to your Chandigarh office and at one time with the concerned police officials and your Manager had assured that within 21 days I would get an email from their office resolving my issue which never happened. Only after 2 months; you people responded me with an offer of insignificant amount which is not at all acceptable to me.
I had to make all new shirts and trousers and that also resulted in loss of money and postponement of my scheduled programmes in India as tailor takes his own time to stitch them. If I calculate that damages, it may run into lacs of rupees and I keep that right reserved to claim from the court of law ; if you are not interested in resolving the issue amicably.
Please also note that as per normal practice; no one keeps the receipts of shoes, clothes, turban etc.for a long period of time and as such I too misplaced them but that should not be considered as illegitimate claim howsoever small the amount is.
Hope you find all documents in order and settle my claim as fast as possible before I take any legal route.
I thank you in advance for understanding my position and settling the claim on top priority without taking much longer time.
Regards.

Dear Narayan
The biggest mistake that you made was that while checking the CCTV footage; you did not involve me. You can never identify the bag of someone else unless the owner himself identifies. Had I been involved; I would have certainly identified my bag.
Anyways; I am going to send you claim form with items description very shortly but please remember that one does not retain receipts of all items like shirts, trousers and turben etc which was purchased earlier and one should understand this fact that if someone is travelling for a month or so; he is not expected to travel without clothes.
Expect the receipt of my claim form duly filled in today.

Dear Mr. Sehmi,

This is in further reference to your email dated August 08, 2017.

We truly regret that your baggage could not be located when you travelled on flight 9W498 from Mumbai to Chandigarh on dated June 08, 2017 and perforce we had to declare it lost.

Please do not think even for a moment that we are insensitive to the inconvenience caused to you on the said day. We do realize the impact such a situation has on the convenience of our guest and we do not undermine all that you had to go through on the said day.
All our attempts including involving the airports of Mumbai and Chandigarh were not fruitful. We have also checked the CCTV footage at Chandigarh Airport with the help of local authorities. As there were number of black bags, your bag could not be identified and nothing noticeable was found. We regret to mention here that despite our best efforts to trace your bag, we have so far not succeeded in locating it and hence is being treated as having been lost.
On behalf of Jet Airways, we express our deep regret for all the inconvenience and disappointment you experienced due to your missing baggage.
Please be advised, the compensation amount offered was on basis of weight of the lost checked-in baggage which in your case is INR 4550/-.

If you are in acceptance of the above compensation, we request you to kindly sign the attached Release and Indemnity form and forward the scanned copy to us.

In case you are not satisfied with the above mentioned compensation, we would request you to share the scan copy of the bills/receipt for the items that were in the missing bag for us to review. In keeping with the laid down guidelines of our Internal Audit department, only computerised bills and the Manual bill with VAT/TIN no. will be considered while verification of the claim amount.

Along with the bills, kindly update the attached claim form and forward the scanned copy to us.

We shall review the bills and advise you on the same.

Thanks and regards,

Dear Chinmaya Karandikar
It is yet another example of your pathetic approach in respect of resolving issues of severely affected passengers.
You are settling it at Rs. 4550 which is not even anywhere near the bag value. The bag itself was o[censored]SD 140.
You have given me enough mental duress and I strongly condemn the same.
You don't even know that being a Non Resident Indian I can not maintain any local Indian account other than NRE or NRO and NRE a/c can not entertain local currency other than foreign convertible currency. You don't even know that NRO account is good enough to accept your payment then there is nothing wrong on my part to conclude about your little knowledge and what should have I expected from you to redress my grievance suitably.
I have been given tough time by you and you should be ashamed of having offered me only Rs. 4550 that too after a period of exactly 2 months from the date of non-delivery of my bag. You never involved me in even identifying my bag through your CCTV recordings despite my repeated requests and it appeared to me as if you are protecting someone for stealing my bag.
I am sending herewith the scanned copy of my bank account being maintained in Yes Bank, Mohali which is good enough to accept this amount in Indian Rupees.
I am taking this amount under strong protest without prejudice.
Sincerely,
LAKHBIR SINGH SEHMI
