[Resolved]  Kmart — Denied payment by personal check

My daughter and I were shopping for some needed clothing for her. She is disabled ( blind ) and her checking account is in both her name and mine. This is to allow me to assist her with writing and signing her checks to save time. After making our selections new shorts, socks, pjs, 2 shirts for her Dad for Fathers day we procede to the check out and write a check for our purchases. I show my drivers licenses and the clerk tells us that she cannot accept our check. I unhappily used what little cash I had to pay for the purchases. My daughter and I have been shopping at this Kmart for a long time for many things. As well as having written checks on numerous occasions; but, never had a check denied. Upon calling the number ( Certegy ) on the back of the check, they informed me that we were randomly denied by Kmart which they do on occasions depending on the amount of checks they receive. I was very disappointed by this and will not return for a very long time, if ever to a Kmart store.

I attempted to purchase $62.91 worth of merchandise at a KMart in Norther Kentucky on 2/14/09. The transaction was rejected by the cashier and I was informed to contact Certegy at the phone number printed now printed on the back of my declined check. I've never bounced a check at any KMart but I felt humiliated and left the store immediately. I called my bank and got my balance. I had more than enough money to cover the check in question, so I called Certegy to get their side of things. I only got a polite machine that told me my check was declined because of my erratic check writing behavior. I have been accused of many things before but never has an automated voice scolded me about my spending habits. The voice also told me the merchant would be informed that my account was cleared. Today, 2/28/09, I attempted once again to shop at the same KMart in Northern Kentucky. I was again declined. This time KMart lost out on $232.64.
I watch the news. I know the economy is not in the best of shape, but evidently KMart has enough cash flow to refuse good money. I talked with the customer service manager about this. She agreed the policy stunk and told me she wasn't able to do anyting to help. I feel this is insanity at this point. How can I be told my $295.55 isn't good enough to spend at KMart?
