Delhi Jal Board — Complaint against billing- arrears and late payment fee charged arbitrarily without basis - k no. [protected]

Sir,

I am writing to complain against the blatantly wrong and baseless demand of arrears and late payment fee in our latest water bill for Kno. [protected].

Charges of Rs. 28, 480/- have been raised on us in bill no.[protected] dated 05.01.22 for the Kno. [protected] (Meter no. 2171346) for the period 16.11.21 to 28.12.21 in which 22.01.22 as the due date. Copy of Bill is attached.

In the bill, in the Arrears section, an amount of Rs. 14, 707/- has been shown as arrears; this is without any indication of any unpaid bill no. or any period to which the arrears relate or any other basis on which the arrear amount is indicated.

On the other hand, it can be seen from the Bill history and payment History section shown in the bill itself, that the entire billed amount has been paid by us for the whole year, ie. from January 2021 to January 2022. It also needs to be stressed that in none of the previous bills was any amount shown as pending arrears and the entire amounts in the bills raised were paid.

Another entry in the bill, shows late payment charge of Rs 735.43. This, again is baseless and unsubstantiated - No bill details are given corresponding to late payment therein because all the bills were paid in time.

As such, It is amply clear that neither arrears nor late payment fee are chargeable from us and their indication in the bill is unwarranted.

This is undue harassment. Matter needs to be investigated on priority, find out why such a serious lapse has taken place and take remedial action.

Meanwhile, immediate action to correct the bill and issue a revised bill immediately so that the correct amount can be paid in time.
