I had brought my original Driver's License and Aadhar Card to the test centre for ID verification, on 29 November 2021. The test centre, ie., Prometric Testing Centre Pvt Ltd, claimed that my Aadhar Card was a copy of the original, since it was only laminated, for maintenance purposes. I could not carry my Passport to the test centre because we were not allowed to carry any personal items such as a bag to the test centre. The centre is in Kolkata, and I had to travel out of station in order to appear for the test. I do not have any friends or family in the city, and I was travelling alone. After they seemed to have a discrepancy with my Aadhar Card, I produced my Driver's license as a supplemental ID document. The GRE Policy clearly states that in case of discrepancy with the primary ID Document, the candidate can produce a supplemental ID Document. According to the ID Requirements for the GRE General Test and the GRE Information Bulletin, the Driver's License has been listed as a source of primary ID Document, and can be produced as an ID proof at the test centre. Moreover, there is no mandate specified in the ETS website regarding the Passport or the Aadhar Card, for ID verification. I tried contacting the GRE Customer Service Executive via mail and calling, but there has been no conclusive response from their side. The test costed me more than $213, which amounts to almost ₹17000, after conversion and other markup charges. I come from a middle class family and this amount is very overwhelming for someone like me. The test centre as well as the GRE Customer Service have harrassed me a lot regarding this issue in the past week. I would be obliged if you could take my case under consideration and arrange me a rescheduling of my exam or a refund of my exam fees.
