Fortis Vashi — ICU and patient care

Address:Mumbai City, Maharashtra

HI,
My uncle was admitted to Fortis Vashi for a brain tumor removal surgery. The surgeon and his assistant are very good, however, the ICU staff and the ICU doctor - physician are not. Infections happen in the ICU but there are no sterile clothes and masks or removal of shoes when one has to visit the SICU. Due to this vulnerable patients end up getting infections and it is upto to them if they want to shift the patient to the ward or not.
The nurses in the ICU do not look after the patient nor do they have any equipment that will monitor the patient especially if they have any fever or the Cather infection. They don't check the patient for any symptoms that might cause any further complications. The Dr in charge of the ICU just puts his name on the visit list and it is billed to us. We are not shown any reports and if we want to have any particular blood tests done, it is not permitted.
Basically the hospital wants to only make money by putting the patient in the ICU saying that they will be better off there which is not true as the patient gets more sick in the ICU. And to add to the inconvenience caused we are constantly reminded every second day to make payments and then too there is no response that is given to the relative about the patient. This is all very wrong, because we come to a hospital like Fortis due to its name but sadly the standards don't live up to the said name.
Constant charges are put for tests which we are only told to sign. For medicines unless we get a financial approval the patient is held as a hostage.

Is Fortis running a mafia gang or a hostage programme? I fail to understand because we trust hospitals with our lives and they play around with it making money out of the illness of a person not bothering from where is a person supposed to pay the money if he is in the hospital. This is not the only hospital ive seen a bad ICU seen it before also in another hospital in Mumbai. This is a money making racket by holding the patient hostage till the hospitals pockets are overflowing.

If you want to be a hospital then understand the meaning of hospitality and why a patient should refer your hospital to others. If this kind of a behaviour in the ICU continues it wont be far that the hospital will be in trouble and the resident doctors also will be held responsible for forgetting why they became doctors in the first place.

And the other staff members rather than being rude, teach them manners and etiquettes. If you cannot then hire someone to teach them etiquettes, personal hygiene and how to respect others if they want respect themselves.

DO NOT PLAY WITH THE LIVES OF PATIENTS BECAUSE ONLY IF A PATIENT RECOVERS WELL THEN WILL THEY REFER YOUR HOSPITAL TO OTHERS. DO NOT BLACKLIST YOUR HOSPITAL BECAUSE YOU ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY AND NOT CURING THE PATIENT ESPECIALLY THE ICU PATIENTS.
