On Thursday 8th August, I went to the HDFC Bank near Deshapriya park, Kolkata to open an account. I was asked to come back the next day with a check, and a photograph while they had already made me sign forms and my documents. On Friday 9th August, I went to the branch with the required documents, and after a bit was denied opening the account since I had one name. My name is Pratiti, the name that I have on my Aadhar Card, my Pan Card, My birth Certificate, My Voter Registration Card and my Passport. I have a court-attested affidavit for the same. They kept insisting that they need to put my father's surname on the account, which will cause a mismatch in my identity. Then they refused to open the account, stating that they cannot open the account with one name. They almost forced my hand to get me to agree to have a surname. When I relented (something that I am neither happy about nor that I would like to do that this moment), they stated other excuses. I strongly condemn this discrimination since I have one name which is validated on all my legal documents, and I had presented both my Pan Card and Aadhar Card with the same.
I will be available via email to discuss my complaint. Was this information helpful? |
