[Resolved]  HDFC Bank — negative balance in my account against rbi rules

This is pushplata rajput. I want to intimate you that i had an salary account (501xxxxxxx6473) with hdfc bank as i was working with hdfc bank, bommanahally branch bangalore. I left the job in 30-june-2017 and there after i withdrawn all the accumulated amount from the account since i will not be receiving any more funds. And now my salary account in hdfc bank has been converted to savings account (Without informing me or warning me) in the month of october-2017. Now when i got to check the account details on 16-nov-2017, i see that there is a negative balance of rs -2687.10 in it in a short span of 45 days (As i learnt my salary account got converted into saving account on 1-oct-2017 after 3 months period). It happend without any notification or sms to me.

The same day "on 16-nov-2017" i put in the money rs. 13000/-, the bank straight forward deducted the negative amount (Rs. -2687.10) from the credited amount.

This is the case of saving account converted from the salary account.in this situation, the bank must notify me clearly by sms/ email in transparent manner that in the event of the minimum balance not being restored in the account within a month of notice, penal chagres will be applicable.
But i did not receive any kind of notification from the bank so far and they straight forwarded updated negative balance in account summary.
This is really unethical and against rbi guidelines.
Bank has no right whatsoever to do whatever they want without informing the customer.
I will not leave this matter here. I would reach out to banking ombudsman and write to rbi about this and then file the case in consumer forum if no action taken.

As per the rbi rule, "according to the rbi notification, banks should not take undue advantage of customer difficulty or inattention. Instead of levying penal charges for non-maintenance of minimum balance in ordinary savings bank accounts, banks should limit services available on such accounts to those available to basic savings bank deposit accounts and restore the services when the balances improve to the minimum required level.

Also it says clearly that : as per a directive from the reserve bank of india (Rbi), banks have been asked to stop imposing charges for non-maintenance of minimum balance once the balance touches zero, the times of india reported. The central bank has also given the customers an option to approach the banking ombudsman in case lenders continue to debit charges on such accounts, creating negative balance.
In the event of a default in maintenance of minimum balance/average minimum balance as agreed to between the bank and customer, the bank should notify the customer clearly by sms/ email/ letter etc. That in the event of the minimum balance not being restored in the account within a month from the date of notice, penal charges will be applicable.
It should be ensured that the balance in the savings account does not turn into negative balance solely on account of levy of charges for non-maintenance of minimum balance.

As per your response on 04-DEC-2017 under comment section, when would your 5 working be completed and when you would revert? This is a clear matter of non-compliance of RBI policy/notification.

As you aware that HDFC bank had kept on imposing non-maintenance charges every 20 days without intimating me (HDFC bank had imposed Rs. -2687.10/- within 45-days after my salary account got converted into saving account post 3-months of my leftover from HDFC bank).

As per RBI it clearly states you cannot charge and make it negative by imposing non maintenance charges as you are not serving the customer in this case.
Please do the needful and help me close this issue by waiving off the charges on urgent basis or I will be forced to lodge a complaint with the banking ombudsman.

Again HDFC Bank deducted an amount Rs. 354/- for the same reason. When you would stop deducting the amount from account?

I left the job in 14-july-2019 and there after i withdrawn all the accumulated amount from the account since i will not be receiving any more funds. And now my salary account in hdfc bank has been converted to savings account (Without informing me or warning me) in the month of November.After an year Their was no connection with HDFC BANK ..Their was new Bank of HDFC OPEND in our locality I thought i was having hdfc salary account it may convert into saving or current account or else I will open new account..Customers care told me I was having negative balance of 2711around ...I was sock.. They told me go different branch of hdfc instant of short out the issue ...
