I booked a room in Abeer Guest House . 41 El-Qobba, East bank, 85951 Luxor, Egypt thru Booking.com. The dates are very special because the entire world is going to gather at Luxor to watch the total solar eclipse Aug-2027.
Almost on all booking websites hotels in Luxor for those dates in Aug-27 are already booked and there’s hardly anything left within mid-range budget category.
I raised a few queries to the guest house owner with respect to my stay and also the eclipse and they realized due to that how important the dates are. The very next day as I just kept on checking I noticed that the per night cost of the same guest house was increased to 3 times the earlier rates. And then within next 1 – 2 days it went full. (At least as per the search results)
I thought I just got it in time. I noticed that the owner was not responding to any of my queries and within days I got an email that the guest house had initiated a free cancellation of my booking and I had 24 hours to decide. This was unusual and misleading as the booking was confirmed.
I contacted the booking website and they also informed me that the booking is confirmed and there’s nothing to worry. I continued follow-up with the guest house to answer my queries and eventually after a few days they replied
We are sorry to inform you that we can not host you at this time because we are away and travelling.
I raised the matter with booking.com but they were not much supportive. They went ahead as per the instructions from Abeer Guest House and on their own cancelled the booking.
It’s a dirty tactic to force guests who have booked at a lower rate to cancel the booking and then get it booked at higher rates.
