Agarwal Packers & Movers Limited — Satisfaction level

It’s a horrible experience with Agrawal Packers and Movers Ltd. (APML). I don't think APML deserve the name and fame they are enjoying. The promises they claim in their website are not true. I had a recent experience. And I think that this should be the first and last experience of mine.
Let me share my experience briefly. I am a senior citizen, retired from Bhabha Atomic research Centre, Mumbai as a senior officer. I had searched a lot for shifting my house hold items to Kolkata. Finally selected for APML for Rs 114000/ for packing, loading, transport and unloading. Till my booking is final, they were very responsive and attentive, but slowly the response is vanished. Although they said that they will contact and confirm before the day of packing, but none had contacted. I was worried because I had to leave my quarter and the flight ticket was day after the packing day. Finally, after number of try I could reach them and the packing day was confirmed. A team reached my flat at 1100 hrs, committed for 0930 hrs. The truck and container came without any logo of APML. However, the website says APML has their own truck and container with logo. On questioning I was told that APML has contracted them. The packing skill was very poor, it looks like they are in a race of closing the packing boxes as early as possible. The item inside is not matter to them. I like to mention here that, I had booked for complete 20 feet container with a transit insurance for a sum of 5 lacs. Thinking that with container my items will be safe as, loading/unloading will be minimum. I could not check how they loaded the items in the container, as I was kept busy in filling the form for insured value of each item. The website and as per their communication, the truck will run 300km per day. With this figure I calculated that, the distance from Mumbai to Kolkata (2000km) may cover within 7/8 days, which also confirmed by APML personnel. But after 3 days the driver of the truck started directly contacting me for unloading. I was surprised, I expected that someone from APML, Kolkata should contact me. As the truck reached early which was beyond my plan, I asked them to hold for 2/3 days, but they said I have to pay Rs 3000/day to retain the truck. Subsequently I decided to unload with an unplanned manner. I had total 120 number of boxes, so it was not possible to open all the boxes Infront of the delivery personnel.
Subsequently as I started opening the boxes one by one, the damage count started rising. Lot of damages in furniture, broken glass, broken swing machine, broken and damage utensils, broken speaker of sound system. I think all the items got some level of damages. I was shocked, I didn’t expect it from APML. If this is the performance with APML then what is the difference with the thousands of roadside packers. As my items were insured, I contacted them for the damage claim mentioning only the major damages. If I go for repair those damages, it will cost not less than Rs20000, but APML offered me only Rs4000. After lot of argument, they agreed for Rs5000 as it is their policy. I asked them that I need the bill/receipts in hard copies urgently for submitting to my office for claim. But after lot of communication, it came to me after 10 days, that to also the receipt mentioning the destination place is Mumbai instead of Kolkata. This is the way APML works.
I thank all the readers for their patience for reading my post. Lastly, I suggest all probable customer who is planning for relocating their household article through APML, please don’t do that, if possible, please cancel the booking and if not possible to cancel then, do not insure your article. Because at least you will save that much money. I had spent Rs 10000 for insurance but the claim given only Rs 5000. This may be one of their business policies. All their promises are just for attracting customers, they cannot fulfill even one. So better to book with a known local fellow or at least other than APML. I don’t know my feedback will matter to APML but at least some customer will not suffer like me.
