I purchased an Airganic Aroma car perfume/air freshener (Airganic Swing Prime Combo-Musk, Coolwater, Sandalwood) from Zepto on 12th june 2026, for Rs 360(Order Id: TURRJBHRF47113).
I used the product as intended — it is a hanging car perfume, and I hung it from the rear-view mirror, which is the position shown and recommended on the packaging. It sits directly above the centre console. Within 1 month, I found two items permanently damaged:
The gloss-black trim panel around the gear console has been chemically etched. The lacquer finish is clouded and eaten away in patches and cannot be cleaned or polished out. It requires panel replacement.
A pair of sunglasses kept in the car has had its frame coating blistered and peeled off in large patches, making them unusable. These were Prada sunglasses.
Nothing on the product packaging warns that the fragrance can damage painted, lacquered, plastic or coated surfaces, and the pack carries no ingredient list. Solvent-based fragrances are known in this industry to attack such surfaces — other manufacturers have faced legal action over exactly this — so the absence of any warning is a serious lapse. A buyer has no way of knowing that placing this in their car risks thousands of rupees of damage to the vehicle interior and to personal belongings.
I have photographs and video evidence of both items, and I retain the product itself.
Resolution sought:
Full refund of the product
Reimbursement of the cost of replacing the damaged console trim panel and the sunglasses
A written explanation of the ingredients in this product
A clear warning added to the packaging so other buyers are informed
I have not received any resolution from the company so far.
