FRRO CSIA — Rude behaviour of Immigration officer

The FRRO
Bureau Of Immigration
Mumbai

Att.: Ms. Aswati Dorje

Dear Madam

I would like to bring to your notice an incident of this morning which has left me shocked and shaken at the rude, arrogant and unpleasant behaviour of an immigration officer on arrival into CSIA Terminl-2.

I arrived with family by SQ422 this morning. The immigration staff on duty directed us to go counter numbers 3,4,5,6 for the check in like some others to facilitate quicker immigration.

The nanny of our child who's is Nepalese national was attended to by an officer, who was not only rude and arrogant but of dismissing behaviour. Prior to attending to our nanny he was rude to other passengers as well, flinging their immigration forms rudely at them. He told the Nepalese lady " why have you come here ? Go to the other counters meant for public ( sic). This counter is for SAARC etc etc." he was speaking very rudely in hindi whereas she could only understand English, Tamang or Nepalese.". His attitude and behaviour was rather insulting.

On hearing his language , I told this officer that we were a family, she's the nanny of our child and we have been directed by your own staff to come to these counters . I told him to speak to the lady politely and especially as she is a foreigner. He said he knows the rules and theres no need to tell him how to do his job. When I asked him why should we go the other counters when it was the immigration staff who was directing everyone. He got up from his seat , told me to mind my business and went into the office murmuring unfathomable but definitely unpleasant words.

When I asked for his name , he pushed his Identity Badge into his pocket.

On the interference of his senior who identified himself as Mr. Parmar, we were cleared through immigration. I informed his superior that I would like to write a compliant of rude behaviour, this arrogant officer told me do whatever you want and he too will write one.

On asking a dozen times, I was told that this immigration officer was called Mr. P. Kumar. I am not sure about his name, but can identify him easily and also the seniors who were kind and nice.

We have been to so many countries with family and have never experienced such atrocious behaviour. In my 40 years of travelling I have never encountered such an immigration officer.

You would agree that such behaviour brings bad name to an already tarnished image of our immigration. I have personally seen such rude attitude of officers who are supposedly trained to be polite and hence, defeat the principles and objectives of Bureau Of Immigration.

I hope that something will be done to correct this undesirable and unpleasant behaviour which only gets a bad name.

Thanking you

Yours Sincerely

Aaron Ajay Sabharwal
