With 2 Apple products failing early for you - the iPad that never worked + MacBook Air battery dying in 2.5 years total
*Product Category*: Tablets
*Product Model*: iPad Air 5th Generation
*Complaint Type*: Product Defective / Not Working + Poor After Sales Service
*Complaint Details:*
I purchased a brand new Apple iPad Air 5th Generation in November 2022 from Sydney, Australia. It was a gift and kept sealed in the original box, never used or activated.
On 29th July 2026, I tried to power it on for the first time. After charging for 5 hours, it did not start. The screen showed only the Recovery Mode logo with "support.apple.com/ipad/restore".
I took the device to an Apple Authorized Store in Mumbai, India. After attempting recovery for about 2 hours, the staff said "recovery not possible" due to a hardware fault and refused further help.
ISSUE:
The product was defective out of the box. It was never used, never activated, and has been kept in original condition for 3.5 years.
PROBLEM:
1. No bill available as it was purchased in Australia by my son-in-law as a gift.
2. Apple India refused any warranty or goodwill repair because it was an international purchase.
ADDITIONAL CONCERN:
This is my second bad experience with Apple. I also bought a MacBook Air 8 years back with the same Apple ID. It worked only 2 years before battery failed. I paid for battery replacement, but it failed again in just 6 months.
EXPECTATION:
For a premium brand like Apple charging ₹60, 000+, a product should not die without ever being used. I request Apple to consider this as a manufacturing defect and provide a goodwill replacement or repair.
This complaint is also to warn other buyers about battery failure in unused Apple devices and poor support for international purchases.
Device: iPad Air 5th Gen
Purchased: November 2022, Sydney, Australia
Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Apple ID: [8 years old, used for MacBook Air + iPad]
*Desired Resolution*: Goodwill replacement or repair of the defective iPad
