In May of 2021, I paid $50 to participate in BookLeaf Publishing's writing challenge, where I wrote 20 poems in 20 days, and then they would publish it for me. They maintained throughout the process that I would continue to hold all right to my book, as well as receive all royalties earned from sales. Neither of those promises, backed up by the contract they sent me, have come to fruition.
My book was published on Amazon and SmashWords at the end of August, 2021. It is now November 23rd, 2021, and I have not received a single penny of the royalties they contractually agreed to send me. When I contacted them on several occasions regarding my royalties, I received vague, non-answers and platitudes about receiving them soon. Finally, I had enough, and told them that if I did not receive my royalties within a week, I would pursue legal action. They never responded, and I have not heard from them since, which has been nearly a month by this point.
I have since contacted them on several occasions to remove my book listings entirely, which I have a right to do via our contract. They have remained completely unresponsive.
I would like to ensure that BookLeaf Publishing does not ensnare anyone else like it did me. If possible, I would like to receive the royalties I am due and have all of the listings they created for my book removed. I'm not holding my breath at this point, though.
