Brand New Toyota Etios Liva Car Tire (MRF ZVTV) Sidewall Cracks within 5 kms of driving on Delhi roads:
I took delivery of a Toyota Etios Liva at around 7 pm on 29-Aug-2013. Thereafter, I drove from the Galaxy Toyota Showroom in Vasant Square Mall, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi to my home in Vasant Vihar – a distance of about 5 kms. When I reached home, to my dismay & horror I found the front Left Tire absolutely Flat with the Sidewall cracked. Just imagine my predicament & trauma at finding an absolutely brand new car a totally Flat Tire with the Sidewall Cracked !
As suggested by Toyota, On 31-Aug-2013, I went along with a Toyota showroom representative to the MRF office at Ghitorni, New Delhi with the damaged tire for inspection.
The MRF inspection report says:
“We have thoroughly inspected the subject item on 31.08.2013 and our inspection of the subject item revealed that the same was damaged as a result of Sidewall concussion due to sudden impact with some heavy object.
This is not due to any manufacturing defect. Hence, we regret our inability to accept the claim.”
I am at a total loss to understand as to how a Brand New Tire Sidewall Cracks “as a result of Sidewall concussion due to sudden impact with some heavy object.” That too, on a Delhi (Vasant Kunj-Vasant Vihar) road - unless, the Tire wall, particularly a MRF Tire wall, is inherently weak or has a defect.
