I have bought a Tata Indigo eCS VX model car, which is supposed to have Alloy Wheels as a factory fitted standard feature. The Car is still under the 1 Year warranty.
It is noted that only 4 Wheels have Alloy rims fitted while the 5th Spare Wheel has a normal metal rim fitted. The specification brochure supplied for the Car or the Owner's Manual DO NOT mention the possibility or scope of the 5th Wheel being differently fitted with a non-alloy wheel.
The Owner Manual also instructs/recommends to carry out the recommended periodic ‘wheel-rotation’ for even wear-down of all 5 tyres, with a reference picture. Is it reasonable to expect that the Customer is required to change the Wheel-rims, every time this ‘wheel-rotation’ is done, say once every few months? Changing of Wheel rims damages the tyres is a known fact. Also the Wheel needs re-balancing after every Tyre/Rim change.
This is not a Dealer's issue (Lexus Motors Kolkata) as the Tata Motors have supplied only 4 Alloy Wheels, as per their communication. This matter is pending for the last 3-4 months.
Tata Motors contention is that this is the normal practice in the Automobile Trade, which I feel is only a cost cutting method and needs to be corrected. Every normal/routine practice is NOT necessarily the correct/fair practice.
In any case, one cannot buy a single extra alloy Wheel rim from the market, in matching-set with the four wheels already fitted. So, in any case only Tata Motors can provide the 5th Tyres Alloy wheel (which costs about 5,000 INR), from their supplier/stock.
So, please let me know, if my claim for the spare wheel to be fitted with Alloy rim is reasonable and can be pursued with the higher levels of the company? Please let me know, how to proceed with this matter.
