We visited Surat to attend the religious function from 4th Oct 2008. Accordingly we had booked one room for 5 members in Hotel Central Excellency. The booking was done through one of the local persons. Initially we had booked the room for 3 days, ie from 4th Oct from 1530 hrs to 6th Oct 2100 hrs. However, as the purpose was over on 6th morning, we thought to check out before 12 noon in order to save the room rent for the third day and accordingly we asked the hotel staff to prepare our bill. The computerised bill was prepared for two days and from our advance of Rs 5000.00 paid at the time of checkin, an amount of Rs 1650.00 was shown as refund. However, to our great dis-belief the hotel manager named Mr Abdeali refused to give us the original bill and he just gave us a receipt of Rs 5000.00 as advance without any refund. On our insistence for the original bill, he simply refused stating that their hotel always provides only the receipt and not the bill and that their receipt is valid in all govt organisations. When we insisted for the bill strongly, he still did not give the original computerised bill, but, prepared one handwrtten bill for Rs 5070.00 for 3 days stay when our original stay was only for two days.
As we had to board the train, we had no option, but to take the manual bill only knowing that the hotel staff had indulged in fraud and had taken Rs 5000.00 from us when the total amount was not more than Rs 3300.00
The details of our stay is as follows:
