I am writing this to report regarding unauthorised sale of some of your copyright protected books in my area.
I was recently approached by two young individuals who introduced themselves as marketing trainees of Impulse group (http://impulsegroup.in). They told me like i was selected for an attractive offer as a part of the marketing promotions of the company(The impulse groups). The offer contained a bundle of books published by the Oxford University Press.
The bundle which was named 'Oxford Essentials' contained the following books namely
1.Paperback Oxford English Dictionary
2.Concise Dictionary of Quotations
3.Dictionary of Proverbs
4.Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms
5.Reverse Dictionary
6.Dictionary of English Grammar
7.Better word Power
8.A Century of New words
Astonishingly all these 8 books had the same ISBN no, which was ISBN[protected] but i didnt notice this initially.
The 8 books were wrapped inside a box and a bundle price of Rs.3295 was printed on the box. These fellows told me that the company(The impulse group) as a part of a promotional offer is giving the above set a books for a discounted offer price of Rs.2500. In addition to that i will get some more free gifts if i am accepting the offer. The free gifts offered me included another bundle of books from the Oxford University Press, a bundle of books published by DK group and one Encyclopaedia Britannica Cd Rom. The second bundle of books which is a part of free gift and named as 'Oxford English Language Reference' contained the following books
1.Oxford Guide to Plain English
2.Oxford A-Z of Grammer and Punctuation
3.Oxford A-Z of Spelling
4.Oxford A-Z of English Usage
and the ISBN given for all the above four books were also the same which was ISBN[protected].A bundle price of Rs.1195 was printed on the top of this box.
This seemed to be an attractive offer which i couldnt resist.
But after buying the books, i decided to check the price of these books in http://www.oup.co.in. When i visited the site i could make out that the ISBN printed on the books doesnt exists at all. I could search and find some titles sold to me in the site but which were given a different ISBN other than that printed on the books i bought! Also i could make out that the second bundle which was given as a part of the free gifts with a printed price tag of Rs.1195 on it, actually costs only Rs.500 as per the price list given in the site.
Now my doubt arises that are these books sold to me are actually printed and published by the Oxford Press.? If it is so how can all these books happened to have the same ISBN?
