[Resolved]  o2 telecoms — sms fraud

Yesterday night i got a mail from o2telecoms stating that congrats your mobile number has won prize money of 500, 000 GBP to collect this amount please be in touch with Dr Steve Mark email: [protected]@live.com or call +[protected]. Is not this a joke or playing with one's emotion. If this is rubbish message than the culprits should be behind the bars and taught them a lesson.

I received a msg from o2telecoms stating that congrats your mobile number has won prize money of 500, 000 GBP to collect this amount please contact to Dr Steve Mark, email: [protected]@live.com or call +[protected]. Is it true or rubbish. Kindly tell me about it.

I received a text message first and was asked to contact a gentleman in London regarding a 1 million pound prize that I had won. I did and he asked me to send an email to which he would respond. This is clearly a scam to get hold of my identity or perhaps as this develops ( if I allow it to) request for money to pay for fees to get the win!!!

Here is a text of the email sent back to me ( note the broken English!!!).

I have received your email and I Mr. Arthur Watson, is to lead you in the procedures by which you should have your prize to your self. Carefully follow the instructions below.

completes the Claimant form by inserting the required details. When you have completed the form, you should return it back to me on this same email address as an attachment or txt file. As soon as I receive the form from you and authenticate your dossier, I will then refer you to our authorized paying Financial Institution for onwards transfer of your prize to your choice account.


Finally, you are advised to keep this winning notice confidential until your prize is processed and released to you. This is part of our security code of behavior to avoid double claiming and unwarranted taking advantage of this program by unofficial personnel. Observe this security measures for your own good because we will not be accountable for unwarranted taking advantage by anyone who would misappropriate your information and claim your prize.

even i got the sam kind of sms from... i sent him all the necessary documents thru e-mail.. he told me that the winning amount would get transferred in my account withing 7 working days.. after few days i recvd a mail stating that one person would arrive in the airport and he would give me the consignment which would carry 250, 000 pounds in cash.. but to take that amount i would have to give 750 U.S.D. in cash to that person..

I received an SMS on 19th Auig 2009, at 2:07 pm saying "Congrats!! You Have Won Prize Of 200, 000 GB Pounds In 2009 O2TelecomsINT'L Mobile Draws.To Claim Your Prize Contact Dr. Mark Email:[protected]@live.com

This is definitely a fraud. But is there a way to trace the source of this sms to find out where it originated from? The sender's details are only showing as "TM-congrats"
