A Senior Secondary School Affiliated to CBSE Delhi No. 930502, Puthoor, Kollam, Kerala, India - 691507
Nothing surprising about that. Long time back, in the year of kuwait invasion by Iraq, a sugarcoated advertisement in the english daily lured me for seeking admission in this school. I had just passed 10th class, from another school, and pressed my parents for admission in 1th class in this school.I had no idea about the trouble i was getting into. I took admission and moved into hostel( in those days there was hostel in this school for boys and girls).
There is hardly anything good to talk about this school. Poor academic standards were the biggest shock. Good teachers would vanish overnight because of poor working conditions and low salary. Low quality of hired teachers compelled me to take private tutions(In those days schools were expected to provide good teaching, and private tutions were not preferred). Low moral of teachers did not inspire anyone. I took admission in the month of June and 7 months later in January i felt that I am not learning anything the school. It took me about sometime to convince my parents that I made a mistake in joining this school.
Later when the final decision was taken to get out of this school and seek good institution, an application was submitted for school leaving certificate.I was refused school leaving certificate and told verbally that the school would need to advertise again to fill the vacancy created by my withdrawl. I was told that the advertisement would cost 2500 Rupees(In those days this was a huge amount). That did not make any sense to anyone in my family. There was no such rule in C.B.S.E.( to which the school was affiliated) guidelines. But anyway, i visited the school many a times, to convince the school authorities that such a demand was illegal. They did not issue me school leaving certificate, and the time for admission in another institutions, was running out. So I had no time for any other option. Ultimately, we paid the amount; Demand for reciept was outrightly refused.
Even today, those memories bring a rush of anger. Such institutions are basically into money minting.Unfortunately, Societies registration act(used most often to start a school) provides enough loopholes for exploitation of consumer(read students). Two decades have passed, and I am not surprised to know that basic philosophy has not changed in this school. I am convinced that this institution did not contribute anything to my growth.
