[Resolved]  Sql Star International — Service Tax

Hi,

I need help for refunding the service tax collected by an education institution. Below are the details:

On 20th June i went SQL Star International International Limited, Mumbai branch for joining a computer course.
Verbally they told me that the course is starting on 29th June.
So the same day I gave two cheque towards the course fee.
The First cheque was dated 20th June 2008 for an amount of Rs 6000/- (Six thousand only).
The second one was dated 30th June 2008 for an amount of Rs 5601/- (Five thousand six hundred and one only)
For the first cheque they provided me a receipt of Rs 6000-/ (Training fee: 5340 + Service tax: 660)
For the second cheque they told me that they will provide me the cheque on 30th June only.
I also signed some of their instructions document.
On 23rd SQL star collected the amount Rs 6000/- from my account.
On 24th Morning they called me and told that the course is not starting on 29th June it’s starting on 6th July.
This date change was not convenient for me.
So we argued each other and finally I asked for refund the amount.
They told me that I can place a request for refund the course fee and for that I need to give them the original receipt and it’ll take 1 month to refund.
On 26th June I placed a written request along with the original receipt for refunding the amount (i've the photo copy of the original receipt).
In the photo copy of my written request with their office seal and sign they wrote following things:

Received original receipt (No. MUM/STU/3920 Dated[protected]
The cheque of amount Rs 6000/- will be processed within 30 days and the same will be communicated to you.

They returned the second cheque on 26th June.
On 23rd July they called me and told me that I can come down their office for collecting the cheque.
On 25th July I went there for collecting the cheque of Rs 6000-/ but they gave me a cheque bearing an amount of Rs 4765/- (Four thousand seven hindered and sixty five only).
When I argued for 6000 they told me that they cannot refund the service tax amount Rs 1235/-.
I paid only 6000 but they collected the service tax for the entire course fee amount Rs 11601/-.


Can you let me know what I can do for refunding the service tax amount Rs 1235/-
