[Resolved]  The Hope Foundation — Unlicensed Mental Hospital

Dr. Deepak Raheja keeps psychiatric patients locked up in his UNLICENSED psychiatric facility for indefinite periods of time, convincing family members that their patient is unfit to be reintegrated into society. Dr. Raheja has a vested interest in keeping them for as long as their families can afford to pay the Rs. 50,000 monthly fee. By keeping them locked up for longer than necessary, by making no attempt to reintegrate them into society, by offering them no hope or plan for the future, no phone contact with the outside world, he causing them great psychological harm and is therefore guilty of malpractice.

Dr. Deepak Raheja promises families a safe environment for suicidally depressed and delirious patients. However, over the course of the last two years, there have been numerous suicide attempts using sharp objects and one successful suicide, a young political science teacher who went into delirium, wondered onto the terrace and jumped off. However, the terrace door remains open and the kitchen knifes well within reach. Dr. Raheja's Rehab should be made an example of, subject to safety inspections and patient rights advocates.

Dr. Raheja's blatant disregard for the law has cost one person her life and numerous others their freedom.

Is it really that bad??
according to mental health act 1987, maintaining such unlicensed hospital by psychiatrist is crime, make sure by searching MCI(medical council of india Or local state medical council) web site that the above doctor is not working anywhere else like medical college as full time psychiatrist, then lodge a complaint in state medical council against doctor for running illigal centre without proper facilities. send a request to the doctor requesting him to provide attested copies of total medical records like case sheets, prescription diagnosis report etc and it is the treating doctors duty to provide all the records to the patient within 72 hours, according to coad of ethics regulation 2002 of medical practitionar. all such rehabiliatation centre which do not have proper license will not maintain al the records so take this as advantage and file a complaint in consumer form. recently telangana medical council suspended 3 psychiatric doctors for 6 months as they are claiming themselfs as fulltime psychiatrist in three differenmt places at a time. if the above doctor is working in any medical college as professor then request MCI to provide his declaration form provided by him at the time of their INspection UNDER RTI ACT
AND A DOCTOR WHO TREATS A PATIENT WITHOUT HIS CONSENT IS LIABLE FOR DISIPLINARY ACTION
SO GO THROUGH MENTAL HEALTH ACT 1987 AND STATE MENTAL HEALTH RULES, COAD OF ETHICS REGULATION OF MEDICAL PRACTIONARIES
GOOD LUCK
