Dear Sir,
I bought a VU LCD Colour TV (Model LC32P69) on 6/8/09 from Croma, Mount Road, Chennai. Despite it being two years old, the panel has stopped working rendering it completely useless.
Despite writing to VU three times, I am yet to receive a direct reply. They charge Rs 1000 just to send a technician to the house to tell you what's wrong. Although they waived that fee, thanks to Croma (which has been more responsive, but relatively helpless), I have been told that replacing the panel will cost Rs. 12,000 plus Rs 1000 for labour. On top of that they can only give a one month warrantee! Clearly they have as little faith in their product as I do.
I had a Sony television before this that gave absolutely no trouble for 10 years. Despite being unfamiliar with VU, I bought it because the Manager at Croma convinced me that this was a reliable established company, supported by the Tatas.
Hence I'm surprised, and very disappointed, not just at the short life span of the first VU product I have ever bought, but also how arrogant and unhelpful the customer service has been. When they sell a customer a faulty product, they can't just wash their hands off it because the warranty has expired.
I am not going to get it fixed, since I have no guarantee that it will work two months from now, and after I don't want to go through this nightmare of writing repeatedly to customer service, and calling their help lines. However, I do think other potential should be warned not to buy this product.
