I got a call from Corel India(mumbai office) saying their system has recognised my PC using pirated version of Corel Draw.They asked me to buy the License for 48, 000 or pay the Penalty which was upto 2 lacs.and gave me 7 days of time, or else a legal notice will be sent to me and my system will be confiscated by the Auditors, I arranged for the money when i thought of checking about them on the web.
There is no web presence of their Domain corelindia.co.in and when i checked online on www.whois.com, i found out that this domain belongs to a company named IT Trend Setter .Admin and the Registered Domain was under their name. Further when i researched, there was a number there under the name Vinod Rana.
So to cross check all this, i called the Corel Compliance guy, asking him to give me the address of his mumbai office as my Legal advicer wants to meet them. He denied Straighaway and told me that they are not allowed to share office address with any since this is the compliance team. The guy, Nithesh Anchan, did not speak properly with me saying "you do what you want, i am sending the audit guys to you".
And i asked him to show me on Web anywhere if it is mentioned that Corel has a Mumbai office, then he kept confusing me with URLs and finally said that he will mail me the link and its been hours, he hasnt replied to my mail.
Their vendor has charged me 44, 000 + taxes (for the s/w) & 17500 + taxes (2 year maintenance) and i am pretty certain that this is a scam because to start with, corelindia.co.in is not registered under Corel.com.
