Hi,
I am Afzalul Haque, a working professional, aged 25 years residing currently in Bangalore. In the evening of 8th September, 2018 at around 9 pm, I was playing football with my friends at Sarjapur Road and after that started feeling unwell and started vomiting and feeling nauseous. Since it continued for quite a time, thinking it to be serious, my friends admitted me to Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore at the earliest (UHID:-814828). The doctors there examined and finding no reason for my illness ordered a toxicology report to be done. As informed by my friends to the hospital, I neither smoke nor drink but still they conducted a test and a urine toxicology was conducted. In that test they gave a positive result for cannabinoids. They informed me the reason for my symptoms was due to drugs abuse and admitted me to ICU under supervision of Dr. Anil Kumar A Kustagi. This was a complete impossible diagnosis as I am a law abiding citizen and have never done any Drug Abuse nor touched intoxicants nor do I carry any incident of such case in my history.
Due to this my mediclaim got rejected. They released me on 10th September and charged me a total bill of around Rs 70, 000 for two days. Since I was confident that this was not possible I filed a Medical Legal Form and applied for a retest. Dr. Yamini K R from Fortis Administration Panel insisted that I file for this case as they were all doubting that I had taken this drug and was lying to them. I again conducted a urine toxicology test on Monday (10th September, 2018) under the supervision of doctor and since I lost my trust on Fortis organization I informed them I will also get it checked by an external agency (done on 11th September, 2018). As expected, both the drugs tests came negative from both Fortis and the external lab ‘Anand Labs’ a NABL affiliated laboratory. After confronting them they are saying a mistake had been made and could not explain the reason for this error. I hope you can understand this false accusation regarding drug abuse has caused myself and my family a lot of mental trauma and this also caused problems for me financially. This also made me lose my belief in the medical system. I want this problem to be highlighted in the public and want some resolution to be taken for this ordeal. I also want monetary reimbursement as my total expenditure for all this ordeal was in excess of Rs 80, 000 - a big sum for a middle-class family. I hope the consumer forum will pay heed to the complaint and take stringent measures to correct this wrongdoing. If no action is taken it will show a grave injustice being done in the society.
