I lived at H.No.458 as a tenant for about 1.5 years. As an unsaid rule, I had to deposit a security amount at the signing of rent agreement which is refundable. It was agreed with the owner that whenever I will leave the premises, i will get that amount back adjusted for the notice period shortfall. The notice period was 1 month. I gave one month's notice and sought for adjusted amount to be given back. He plainly refused to refund and started making excuses that it is adjusted for repairs.
I would like to highlight that there was no major repair-work required as I had maintained the house like my own house. During my course of stay there, I was asked to pay electricity bill at the rate of ~8.50 per unit with no logic given, just that total bill divided among all tenants. There was no clarity on how he was managing 4 floors on one electricity connection. But I still paid that on good faith.
I just want to highlight here that it has become customary for house owners in Gurgaon to exploit tenants who come from outstation seeking jobs here. There must be a law safeguarding tenants' rights. Was this information helpful? |
