To whom it may concern,
I would like to bring to your attention the following issues with regard to the flight training unit I worked
with for the past 9 months. I was terminated from my position as a Flight Instructor at Aero Academy
for not following their company policy. I did not follow their policy because I cannot do so in good
conscience. The following are some of the policies:
1. Flight bookings and ground briefing bookings are scheduled by the boss only, Mr. Ravi Virdi
2. Bookings cannot be changed or deleted by either the trainees or the instructors
3. Trainees are booked everyday with multiple dual flights and ground briefing sessions
4. Trainees and instructors must follow the bookings regardless of individual progress
5. If the weather is bad for flying, trainees must be given a ground briefing for the time booked
even though the trainee has already fulfilled all lessons for flight test
6. If bookings are not being followed exactly, “No Show” charges will be given to trainees ($200)
7. Trainees should not be told whether they are ready for flight test without Mr. Ravi Virdi’s approval
8. PTRs are locked inside the accounting department and trainees have no access to their PTRs
9. PTRs are locked inside the accounting department and instructors have no access afterhours
10. If a trainee decides to leave, he/she will be given multiple fines to forfeit his/her deposits
fines that were not set out clearly in the student’s guide and the student contract (i.e. $200 for taxiing fast, $1000 for forgetting to turn off
electric switches in the airplane…etc.)
Those policies violated the Flight Instructor Guide, the CARs 405.14, 405.33 (2), 405.33 (3) and Aero
Academy ICPL Flight Training Manual and Aero Academy ICPL Flight Operational Manual in several
occasions:
1. Trainees must be ready to receive their training. When trainees are not feeling well or preoccupied
with personal business, they should be allowed to cancel the booking and instructors
should have the authority to not conduct the training. Forcing trainees to undergo with training
is a violation of the instructing technique of Readiness.
2. If a dual flight went well, a trainee should be allowed to do solo practice. Forcing trainees to fly
dual flights everyday is a violation of the instructing technique of Exercise.
3. When instructors are not allowed to tell trainees about their progress or trainees are made to
believe that they are performing worse than they really are, it is a violation of the instructing
technique of Effect.
4. Instructors with less than 500hrs total time and 200hrs Flight Instructor experience were
assigned with ICPL trainees at the commercial phase of the training. That is in violation of CARs
425.21(3)(b)(i).
5. Trainees are booked with 08:30 flights and forced to fulfill the bookings even after a night crosscountry
flight, it is a violation of Aero Academy’s ICPL Flight Training Manual Chapter 5.7 under
Fatigue Management.
6. The Flight Follower is not reachable by trainees afterhours. That is in violation of Aero
Academy’s ICPL Flight Operations Manual Chapter 2.2.6 through 2.2.8 under Operational
Control System.
7. PTRs are not provided to trainees upon request. That is in violation of CARs 405.33 (2) and
405.33 (3)
One trainee claims that her PTR and logbook was stolen and burnt by Aero Academy. I suggested her to
reconstruct her PTR using the daily flight sheets but she was denied of access to those flight sheets.
Until this day, she has not been able to apply for her commercial pilot license.
Those policies were still in effect the day I was terminated, and my students are still suffering every day.
I ask your help in upholding the regulations, to prevent aviation incidents and to protect the reputation
of quality flight training in Canada.
I can be contacted via email or cell phone and other instructors and trainees are also willing to verify my
claims upon request. Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely,
Kimball Ho
