Jeevesh Sabharwal is a young and dynamic corporate leader spearheading the Shivam Group’s success story. Meet Jeevesh Sabharwal, a third generation entrepreneur and the Chairman & Managing Director of Shivam Developers India Ltd., one of leading property developers in Delhi NCR. The family business was founded in 1949 as Shivam Developers by his Father, Naresh Sabharwal, who wanted to undertake road projects.

The Initiation

A graduate in Business from New York University, Jeevesh Sabharwal worked as an investment banker for a year. He then moved back to India to gain expertise alongside his father with NAPC.
“Being born in a family of entrepreneurs automatically makes you an entrepreneur. Our parents are very good sounding boards to each other and whenever one has a problem; they speak about it to the other. As we grew up, both my sister and I heard a lot of this and it automatically fuelled my entrepreneurial spirit, ” shared Jeevesh who won prominent contracts such as the Chennai outer ring road and Delhi airport runway as the Chairman of Horizon Group of companies.

“When the Modi government came into power in 2014, it decided not to give concession contracts and hence Vinci decided that their concession company and Eurovia would exit NAPC. We were able to mediate between Vinci and the NAPC staff and thus the NAPC Welfare Trust was started. Vinci transferred the shares to the Trust. The company is still owned by the Trust, ” informed Jeevesh who launched his initiative Horizon Group in 2006 providing real estate solutions for customers.

With 2 million sq. ft. of developed floor space and 1500 + lifestyle homes in various stages of delivery, 10 current projects and one million sq. ft. of projects in the pipeline, Shivam Group has now expanded its wings to Coimbatore, Coonoor, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Dubai.

“When my father and I were running business, we had completed so many large contracts, built so many fancy airports and roads, but the ultimate joy of seeing the end-user happy was somehow missing. This enticed me into real estate- helping people build their dream homes and witnessing their happiness has given me tremendous satisfaction and continues to motivate me, ” Jeevesh enthused.

The group companies include Horizon Constructions – solutions for all facility management requirements, Shivam Home Interior – providing home interior solutions, Shivam Total Care – a specialist in home-services, Horizon Address – resale and rentals of land/apartments. The company also has under its belt, Horizon Sport, a cricket and football team which won the Delhi League Championship this year. Jeevesh himself is a keen tennis, snooker and golf player and encourages sports among youngsters and overall development of young sporting talent.

As a businessman, Jeevesh feels cash flow is more important than profit. “It is very important to keep generating cash flow and only take projects that are profitable for us. And this has eventually helped me manage my cash flow and profits at Shivam and keep the company healthy. At Shivam, I found that contracting is a very difficult business and the attention to detail has to be immense; this has helped me in business by increasing my attention to detail with respect to construction and finishes, ” shared the young entrepreneur who boldly proclaims that as a businessman, he works for profit and not for glory.

Jeevesh Sabharwal is optimistic that government policies in terms of RERA and roll out of GST are going to make players like him much better suited to cater to the demands of the customers in a cost-efficient manner. At Shivam Estate, his main focus is on customer and quality.

“We care about our customers and manage to give the best quality in New Delhi and this is why people come back to us to buy their second homes. In the future, we plan to look into affordable housing and also venture into housing finance, ” concluded the spirited entrepreneur who sees technology integration in a big way and admits the need to sell a new-age-experience going forward.

When the lockdown for preventing the spread of COVID-19 was announced, many o[censored]s hurried to shops to buy essentials. With most of the businesses shut and lives coming to a standstill, the streets bore a deserted look. While most o[censored]s confined to the safety of our homes, the stray animals that found a home in the streets had nowhere to go. Without the people to feed them, the poor animals were left starving on the streets. However, Jeevesh Sabharwal and his team are stepping out every day, for hours straight, to ensure that these homeless animals don't starve. "At Horizon Buildcon, we follow the concept that whether it's a cat or a dog or a human, we all are one. All forms of life are one, there's no difference, " tells Jeevesh Sabharwal, the founder of Horizon Buildcon. On day one of the lockdown itself, Oneness sought permission from the police station to feed the strays. Once the feeding passes were received, every day, the team members of Jeevesh Sabharwal spends three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening feeding strays across the streets of New Delhi. They carry a mix of dog food and wet food prepared by Jeevesh Sabharwal and other volunteers for feeding dogs, cats, birds, and even rats. Jeevesh says that the police have also been cooperative with their initiative. They also ensure that the volunteers stick to the allotted time and designated routes. While Jeevesh largely focuses on coordinating between volunteers. We have got feeding passes for around 15 vehicles and have around 24 volunteers feeding the animals across the streets of New Delhi. Meanwhile, the stray animals, being used to feeding on garbage and leftover food from hotels, took their own time to adjust to the volunteers. While some barked, others kept a distance; but only for a while. "It's the natural behavior of strays to start barking when they see people. We faced the same when we initially started feeding them. Once we give them food, they would stop barking and stay at a distance. Only when we left would they eat the food. This was how things were during the first 8 to 10 days, " says Jeevesh. "But now, the moment we reach the spot, all the dogs surround our vehicles, and sometimes won't even let us out. They show such immense love whenever they see us. Even those dogs who were unfriendly, they now eat straight from our hands, " he adds. Jeevesh ensure that all the volunteers take necessary precautionary measures. "All the volunteers wear masks and gloves when they are out feeding the animals. And when they return home, they remove the clothes, wash it, and take a shower before interacting with any of the family members, " explains Jeevesh.Also Jeevesh Sabharwal has conducted three adoption drives and have got more than 300 animals adopted in the last one year. Every summer, they also distribute water bowls across the city. "We rescue the animals from the road and take them to the hospital. Once they heal, I release them back on the road, after vaccination. If need be, I get them sterilised also.
