I am an NRI, Visited after two years on vacation to India for 30 days in August 2012. Because of my pressure from family I wanted to buy a land in Chennai and approached SBI NRE Branch in Anna Nagar, gave the application along with all the required document for initial process before finalizing the land. By September 2012, I gave all the land related documents including the sale agreement(I paid advance for the land). as per them they said it will take within a month. Agreement was done for 3 months duration. whenever I call from abroad, they said its' all going fine, we are doing legal, evaluation...etc. But they never send me any copies of the report even after my many request. In oct 2012, due to family emergency I visited chennai for 10 days, I had gone to the branch, and then they started searching my application(like any normal public office) and they found it on the floor under 100s of papers. I was shocked, but kept quite thinking that I should not raise my voice. So, frustrated but still met them everyday. still I didn't get evaluation report or legal report. 4th December is the last day of my agreement. but nothing happened on my application. they requested me to call the land owner and ask for 10 days extension, when I spoke the owner was taking me for ride and demanded 6 lakhs more since the prices of the land have increased. After my serious discussion and I also promised him that if it doesn't happen in these 10 days, you consider me that I am withdrawing from the deal and pay back the advance in 3 months time. So, 90 days is not sufficient for SBI. Now, the manager asked me provide all the documents again, everyday I send some documents. till now I do not know any status. and december 13th is the last day for the deal otherwise I'll loose the land and my advance its upto the owner to decide.
I am seriously a sincere person, very polite and respect others as equal as me. Never wanted to hurt physically or mentally anyone. Please believe me and do not approach SBI for any loan. no one has knowledge of how to use the system, no email reply, no communication, totally No seriousness. its' not the kind of pressure that the other private bank has. and ALL are corrupted. they demand not only processing fee which is official also more money for each report(legal, valuation and whoever),other private banks they collect all the details and spend THEIR time and charge only processing fee. For the last 90 days I have been calling them everyday spoiling my nights here with stress. No one can change the SBI system, its' a typical govt office. I am sorry to say all this , I do not want anyone to undergo this processes. I took a loan in 2004 with ICICI bank I never knew what I did, they came to my house and got all the papers signed. Its FACT. I am not promoting private bank, I want them to learn something good from others. on the other day I went to one private bank, there are 3 guys who came and asked me what I want, how can they help. I do not want that kind, minimum try to be sincere to your work.
Now, I made up my mind, all my hard earned money that I gave as advance, let it go. I am fine, I need a proper sleep and peace.
