I am writing to bring to your attention the increasing menace caused by a group of monkeys in our locality, Rajib Nagar, in Old Hasimara, District Alipurduar, West Bengal. Over the past few months, the situation has become quite distressing for the residents.
The monkeys have been entering residential areas in large numbers, damaging property specially the houses where the roofs are made out of tin sheets, stealing food, and in some cases, attacking people, including children and the elderly. They have also been seen entering homes and creating a mess, which poses serious health and safety risks. As a result, residents are living in fear and facing difficulties in going about their daily routines. This has been happening for quite a few years now.
Despite efforts by the local community to keep them away, the problem persists and is now beyond our control. We believe that these monkeys may have strayed from nearby forested areas or are seeking food due to habitat loss.
We kindly request the concerned department to take immediate and appropriate action to address this issue. Necessary steps such as the safe relocation of the monkeys or other humane control measures would be greatly appreciated.
We hope you will treat this matter with urgency and help restore normalcy in our area.
